Hello all, First thanks in advance to all of you for furthering my education in the Ferrari field. I am relatively new here and have started looking for a 512BB or a BBi. I have test driven a 365BB, 512BB and 512BBi and think with all the parameters I am accounting for that a Carbed BB would fit the bill of what I am looking for. I have seen most of the BBi's that are available but currently there does not seem to be many carbureted cars on the market. If any of you own or know of such cars that would be for sale please let me know and thank you for all your help. I mostly would like to find something in North America in order to keep the costs of sending my mechanic for a ppi within reason. Thanks again. G.L. Burlington, Vermont
Check with www.fantasy-motors.com they probably won't show one in stock but they will be able to locate what you are looking for. Check out their sold inventory and you will be able to see the quality of cars they deal in
Heritage Classics in Los Angeles has what appears to be a very nice late model 512BB. http://www.heritageclassics.com/ferrari/82red512bb/Page.html Best of luck in your search for the "right one" !
don't engauge anyone in helping you find a car...you will just pay too much for the car. there are so few really good carb cars avail, it is going to be hard for you to find one in any event. trust me, as i looked at 6 "mint" or "like new" boxers before buying my bbi. i wanted a carb car but all were garbage w/ too many excuses. i wanted a great car that need little on the mechanical side and nothing on the cosmetic side...i ended up w/ a bbi as the seem to be better maintained in general. i have seen that you are a yachtsman (boater) and judging from the pictures of your cigarette, you will not find a carb car that meets your high demand for a clean, no excusses car. you will spend lots of money and time looking at cars and pay a high premium anyway. go to concourse italiano this year and make some offers on great cars and see if any have interest in transaction. i hope this is not too jaded but helpful. boxers are lovely if you find the right one...it would be hard to ever part with, as there is nothing else to replace it ...in a ferrari flavor. pcb
Ghyslain, Weren't the Boxers that you tested recently any good? They seemed OK from the photos and your reaction. If you do come up again to Montreal to inspect Steve's Boxers, give me a shout. Salutations, Bernardo BTW, I love your avatar...how many people remember Shoe?
Everyone seems to like it...but I just can't phathom why. It's just a pair of legs, with some sexy mules, and luscious toes......mmmmmm, s'cuse for a moment please.
Be careful. I recently went through this process looking for a BBi. Wanted the better driveability of the injected engine. Ran into some interesting characters with really unrealiable stories. If you don't mind the mileage, there is a Boxer for sale by a young lady in Austin, Texas, that is incredilby maintained. Has over 30k miles, but has had its major service and a lot of TLC. Comes with 18" BBS wheels worth about $7000 in addition to the originals. If you are intersted let me know and I will give you her phone number. I do not want to post it on an open forum. If anyone wants a deposit before the PPI, WALK. No, RUN!!!
I try to think of who she is ? A very good looking professional, who knows she is hot and sexy (when she wants to be) ? LOL Don't go lookin for another set of legs on the net.
chefrobear/ralfabco/ I have tried Steve Maman in Montreal. He has a very nice '83 BBi Euro spec meaning I can't bring it in the us for another 2 years. For me it would still be doable by getting registered in Canada for the first 1-1/2 then importing it to the US after the 25 year deal is gone by but I then have to pay the taxes on the car. Those taxes are the reason I moved to the US in the first place... Might be doable but it adds to the net of the deal. Gary/ The one at Heritage is sweet from the add. I have called a boating freind that owns Reliable Carrier for a quote to transport the thing her. I need to do a little more due dilligence into this one. Pete/ In the end I will most likely end up withan injected one. Bernie/ The 365 I tried was to expensive and I am in process of trying the BBi that is actually for sale... The BBi I tried when I had the test drives has sold but there is another one in NH that is for sale. And we are efforting the inspection as we speak. BTW Shoe rules. tifosiron/ I've dealt with Performance boats long enough and have learned hat if I can not get the thing inspected on my dime thoroughly I will not deal with the sellers. I sent you a PM regarding the lady's BBi Thanks all and keep it coming
I'd like to add that Dana's car is the car for anybody who wants a BBi. I'm working on a book on Boxers. Every owner that I have talked to says that the worst thing that can happen is for a Boxer to sit. More than any other Ferrari, Boxers MUST be driven. You have been warned. Dale ps If you don't believe me, ask Martin.
i can assist you if your issue was the taxes.... not only will you benefit from a 6.1 % duty kickback in 1.5 years as i would export the car out of canada but i could even get the gst & pst back to you if we would cancell the deal in 1.5 years and you would return the car back to me for a full refund. the law states that if a sale gets cancelled, for any reason, all taxes could be refunded...! yes, there is a tax investment for 1.5 years but ,in the end,you get it back + the 6.1 % i paid when i brought the car into canada... the amount of the sale could be on a lease basis as well... 20 000$ for the sale + taxes... the balance on a deposit with a car return in 1.5 years !! which means in the meantime, all you leave as taxes are on 20 000$..rest is considered a deposit.! purely legal and clear cut...as the plan is that i buy the car back in 1.5 years and export it back to the usa and re-sell it to you there...in other words, there are many options that can be very advantageous for you... most of all and i am sure everyone here will agree with me....is the following: all of us know that i have sold many many 512's in the past 5 years..maybe 15-18 cars...i know them really well... most of the usa legal cars have been butchered in some way....you guys will not like it but the fact is that there are holes that were cut ,modified exhaust, plumbing added, metal bars welded to the nose & rear, modified bumpers...losing the white bumper lenses..then,some re-modified cars back to original... what original ? b.s. cars were played with, welded, cut etc... we are all fighting here all day about originality and most of the cars were epa & dot'd by amerispec and others that had no choice other than ruining the cars to make them legal... what do we call a real boxer nowadays?? a nice ,clean epa & dot car that was well done??? that is not the proper term for original. the only original bb 512 that we can say are original are in europe... these are the ones that never came here and are still untouched...never modified or -re-modified back to their original state... you can never make a car original once it has been cut,welded...it wil always remain a re-done car! that is fact and us boxer lovers need to face it. the car that our friend here has visited at my place happens to be from europe. 2 owners from new. no epa or dot stories.in 1.5 year, all 83 cars will become legal for importation with zero modifications... this means that original bb 512 are goinf to be admissible into the usa... now, these cars,we can say or original cars .... there are picky guys on this forum but no -sees the real story or confronts it...all our bb's are story cars in some way... down the line,in 20 years, only the euro cars that stayed in europe are going to be worth the values... the usa cars are going to be 2nd market demand...i rarely get euro spec original cars as i am limited to the canadian market...not too many buyers here for bb 512's...so i stick to the ex-usa cars...i am a boxer lover...real true lover...i go crazy for all stickers on spare wheels,manuals,radio/eq with pionneer / ferrari insigna... etc... i try to get the nicest usa legal cars i can get with all these sopecial items...but again, they are cars that are modified and tampered with...some well done, some not. the car i offered to him is an untouched car exept for the seats that were modified at the factory by the original selling dealer in 1983. the bolsters were made a little more larger and bumpier.factory done after the car was delivered...seats were sent back to the factory.the car is a 100% original car,85 % original paint..never touched up or dinged or scrathed... original everything...clock pendant info sheet, all manuals,radio/eq,major service done..engine bay like new..interior like new...undercarriage like new..never redone.. once that car makes it into the usa legally, she is worth more that any other car there..basically the only original car ...the way ferrari built it...the eay ot was meant to be... no holes in the bonnets to fit marker lights,.... then years later,bondo/metal welded in to block the holes...the full repaints to match and paint the front/rear... this car still has the original boxer trim...not red like most aftermarket painted bottoms.... this is what i call a nice car.there are many out there in europe etc... but i am honest with myself and i say to myself that at the end of the day,the usa legal bb's are cars that were tampered with.speedo's half converted using kms/miles...who knows... real miles? who knows what happened...there were taken apart... there are nice cars but they are doomed for life with a tag carrying a story. personnaly,i hate stories... i like cars that are untouchedif i will keep one for myself... guys, another 1.5 years and i will buy 10 a year as they will come in easily.... i need to say that after driving my f40,koenig 328 gts with 430 hp..all lovely cars... but the 512 bb is the one i love most.i dont care what other parts of the forum say about our bb 512's, 355,348....toys for kids with 8 cylinders with no feeling.. a 512 bb is a car made by enzo for the man who loves an italian muscle car. i drove that bb last week and gave it a good ride.... 1st gear, she leaves tire marks for a few feet ! real true normally aspitated brute power with soud,feeling,.... i just love them... we'll get the respect again soon as the values start going north again...
Steve enjoy your vacation or whatever your doing down there...I won't make a move before you come back and we sit down if there is a way like this. I'll call Howard first thing and go have another look tomorrow.
enjoy? enjoy what? i should have stayed in montreal... my wife and kids only want to shop.... all i have been doing is reach for the back pocket to pull out my credit card......... tomorow evening is the start of the jewish holiday...passover. that'll keep us far from shops till tuesday when we go to real spending at biloxi mississipi.... casinos, suites, spa treatments...! just joking,i am enjoying and having a great time... howard will take you out with the car....call him early so he can throw that seat in there....he has it ready... let me know how it goes..car drives a real 99% perfecto.. you will confirm.... good evening...
Gary Bobileff has what looks like a very nice carbed 512BB for sale in San Diego, CA. Check out www.bobileff.com.
or you can ask me! i have spent huge money for the above mentioned reason...> than 20k in the last two years. ouch! it's easy to own these cars but not as easy to maintain them...almost yacht like!
I put about 3000 miles a year on my Boxer. My maintenance costs have been running $1500-3000 on average. Regular usage is critical. If it does not get exercise for a couple of weeks, it becomes a very angry Boxer.
$69,500 ........For a Carb Boxer with a bar sticker , must have some issues at this price! mileage is not that bad. If everything is correct and no issues on this car i might be interested.
I actually looked at this car before I bought my 365bb. It has no "issues" but it needs a major, and the paint on the front bonnet is not great - a little faded. Otherwise very nice. FWIW they were VERY firm on the price. Alex
