I have never hired a caterer. I have no clue. I would like a caterer to provide several dishes in chaffing dishes. I can provide the soft drinks and water. I would also like tables, tablecloths and chairs but I can also get that somewhere else. Any suggestions? My biggest concern is the weather. If it is nice I expect a great turn out. If the weather is bad or if the weather forecast is iffy there will probably be less attending. So it may be hard to forecast attendance. Any suggestions? My web site needs upgrading yet. I will do that soon.

Should I call some local restaurants? Where to even start. This place is just up the street:

Just call some local caterers, they can walk you through everything. Ask for referrals and check them out before hiring anyone.

Whoever you decide to go with, don't beat the hell out of them for the 'best or bette price'. Catering is a thankless, low-profit business, so treat the caterer of choice with as much respect as you can.

Many restaurants also cater, so they are worthy of checking out. For the weather, it's a crap shoot as you will commit to a head count, so don't try to short the caterer two days before the event if it's going to rain or snow!

The caterer can arrange everything you need. For stuff like chairs, etc., the caterer may have all of this. If they do not, they will probably go to the same rental companies that you will go to and add a minimal markup for making the arangements.

I posted the above because I have lived 'catering hell' for 8 years before Melodie got out of the business and got a real job! She worked her ass off, only to spend her profit on taxes, insurance and fighting stupid worker comp claims. Just a tough biz.

Talked to a place just a few miles up the street. Nice lady. A small golf course plus they do catering. Many years experience. She first suggested brats, etc. I said I don't want pre-made brats and hamburgers. They are really only good right off the grill and I am not grilling. She then suggested various meats and buns. Maybe one ham and one chicken. Plus the usual potato salad, pasta, some type of fruit plate etc. I think I'll be OK. We also talked about the turnout as it depends on the weather. She says she can make up more stuff quickly that day if I see more people showing up than I had planed for. I'll rent the tables and chairs locally. She will supply tablecloths, plates and forks etc. My girlfriend will probably make a few things also.

    Thank you

All depends on the weather. Hope for a nice day and lots of cars and owners.
