I am looking to upgrade from my NSX to a F355 but want to make sure that I can get what I want for my self imposed budget of $75,000. I want either a Berlinetta or GTS with 6 speed manual (no F1 transmission) with the 30,000 mile service completed and valve guide issue resolved. I want a clean car with less than 30,000 miles and no prior accident history. The only color I am interested in is red with tan interior. Is my goal realsitic and can I find what I am looking for, if so where should I look, I have looked at the FerrariAds.com on this site, Autotrader, Collector Trader and Ebay. am well aware to get a full PPI before I complete any transaction. Thank you for your help any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in the middle of negotiations on a '97 Yellow/Black Spider, 14K miles, from a local guy. He wants $80K and I've offered him $75K. He has all books and I'm in the middle of trying to get the records from an authorized dealer for the first 4,000 miles. He has owned it since then. I think mid-70s is about right for these cars. In fact, I believe by the end of the Summer if he doesn't take the $75K now, he will later in the Fall. I can wait until then.

Lance, your car is beautiful, but I am looking for the bright red instead of the dark red, very best of luck in selling, it truly is gorgeous.

i have been looking at the 355 market, the early with less than 20k miles cars can be had for mid to low $60s guys asking in the $70s will not move them, its a buyers market on these cars folks are afraid of the high potential maintenance costs similar to the TRs, they'll get cheaper IMO towards the fall as well.

I think private owners will work on the price. Dealers on the other hand, want and are quite firm by another $10K, over and above a private seller. I have to think that most people looking at a car like this are going to look at anything and everything that displays classified ads. Potential buyers will obviously see the dealers want more money and when you inquire, they don't really even care if you buy their car. In fact, if you even indicate you are looking for the "best car for the best price", they won't even call you back with a bottom line price. Unbelievable......

both colors look alike. How were able to tell? is it in the name, vin #? both? Whats the tell-tell sign. I didn't realize there were two different red's on the F355-its nice to know.

75k seems like a low price on that car if it has all service records and the 30k was done recently. A neighbor of mine recently sold a 97 red-tan spider for 85k to a private party. The car had 11k miles and the 30k was just done.

This car had a 15K service done 2 1/2 years ago. So, essentially I have to do the 30K service 2 1/2 years from now. That might account for maybe $5K less but $85k seem high for a '97. I would have figured more like $80k, probably not much difference when you start to think about having to travel all over the country to look at these cars. Airline tickets aren't so cheap these days.

75k is very doable IMO. You may have to look around a bit and/or wait out a buyer but its a reasonable price. I saw a 99' spider with 20K miles sell for 85K a few months back. There is a 99 GTB here locally with 22K asking 85K that I think would go for a little less and that is at a dealer. I think you could get a 95-97 for 75 with some patience.

Your goals are very reasonable minus the valve guide part, not every car has/had/ or will have valve guide problems. It's a fairly small % but it's just something you want to look out for.
