Does anyone have a good used Electromotive XDi ECU box for sale? Mine is not operating properly and the company no longer repairs or sells them.

    Thanks,

I realize finding a replacement is the easiest but time has marched on and today literally any ecu out there can replace it with minor rewiring. $300-$1000 would get you 1/2 dozen options all probably better than what you had.

Thank you all for the great advice. My Ferrari mechanic is installing a new aviation grade ECU to replace the XDi box . It will require a little wiring but will be better than before.

Aviation grade not automotive? Can I ask which ecu you chose and why?

The Ferrari mechanic’s wife has a lot of great contacts in the aviation community. Since the XDi ECU has been in airboats and some home built airplanes, she managed to procure a new ECU with connectors that are used in the aircraft engines to replace my obsolete Electromotive ECU. I will get you more details when I pick up the car.

Aviation ECU will probably will work ok. I have found a key feature to a good ECU is the ability to perform data recording with the ability to review and fine tune your ECU.
However, the aviation ECU may not have provisions for accel enrichment as required in a automobile.

Thanks, I'm curious what she found...the only one I know of with aircraft grade plugs are some the motec stuff which at at the very high end price point wise and aided at racing not aircraft.

Also interested because the needs are different ...airplanes need reliability above all else but operate at mostly constant rpm vs automotive use were dynamic response is really the most important because we just love snappy throttle response. Also car guys like to tinker so easy to use PC interface and data logging are big selling features in automotive but about 0 value added in aircraft I'd think.

Edit: looks like I was typing while ferrariowner was typing similar thoughts

I don’t think aircraft level stuff with redundancies in place is truly necessary but ok. Interested to see what it all looks like when done. Glad you have a solution

If this doesn't work out, you might want to try Esslinger Engineering. They used Electromotive ECU's on Midget (circle track) engines long after everyone else gave up. They were also in vogue for SCCA racers, especially on BMC products. Most of those cars are retired to vintage or upgraded, you might find someone with one lying around. There is an online group for SCCA production car racers, you could ask there.

I have a full working not much used XDi box and a MSD tach adapter available in case you want to go that route.

    Best, Peter
