Like I said their are different levels of fakes, even the better fakes you can still tell especially if you have a real one next to it, the biggest give away to the fakes is the reflection and quality of the crystal in the light, magnification window for date, most fakes don't magnify it enough, also the polish of the watch surfaces, face detail of lettering, size of winding knob along with many other giveaways, chances are this guy was a rookie and didn't know them very well.
I've got an SS Rolex Datejust that I bought second hand but unused from a reputable dealer in 1991--$1,300.00--I've never had it serviced and for all practical purposes it keeps as good time as a quartz watch. It's low mileage--I only wear it a day or two a week at most; my daily timepiece is a SS Timex quartz chronometer--I can't believe the quality level for something that only cost fifty bucks at Target. On topic, I think Rolex is an excellent quality watch--just don't pay retail.
Thank you all for your advices. I'm asking santa for the SUBMARINER ,stainless case, gold trim, black face. sexy sexy Lamarossa
That would be a wanna-be 16613? You can get them on numerous street corners from Singapore to TJ. Or you could really impress the chicks and get a gold President with a diamond encrusted bezel and dial. Ice that time(woops, i mean ROLE)x up with some cubic zirconia and you'll have the girlies screaming at the mere thought of you. OK jes' kidding Be patient and take the time to learn about the marque. The devil is in the details. The ROLEX REPORT is a good reference for contemporary models. It's on ebay for around 40 bucks and well worth it. If you're not careful you could end up collecting the darn things. Some excellent 16610 fakes are coming out of China with ETA movements. Some faked dials for double red 1680s and 1665s and orange hand 1655s have been coming out of Vietnam recently. Add the faked rare dial to a garden variety but genuine case and movement and you have a fake "fake" rolex that may command 3-10x what the watch is really worth.
I thought the 16613's all had blue faces and the 16610 had a black face. I'm probably wrong. Is there an online place to find the different models with numbers?
16610 = stainless case, bracelet and bezel. This only comes with a black dial. 16613 = stainless case, 18K bezel and 18K center links only on bracelet. Dial can be black, blue. Champaigne & silvered (serti) dials have small diamonds for the hour indices and sapphires for the 12, 6 & 9 o' clock markers. 16618 = 18K case, bezel & bracelet. The dials can be blk, blue or serti as in the 16613. Then there's the anniversary sub- the green one.
I'm not sure if I like the newer green one. It is growing on me. I really like the ss and gold with the blue face. I have a ss oyster datejust that I hardly wear anymore. I think if I get another rolex it will be the submariner. I've got a ss tag that looks like it, it has been a great watch, especially since i paid $500 for it. Thanks for the info on the models.
If reliable time-keeping is the primary goal, nothing can beat a good quartz. A Casio can keep far better time than the best Rolex automatic. You can see I'm fairly utilitarian in my outlook.
WTF!Surely thats gotta contravene one of the Fchat posting rules - for pitys sake Why!!!!!
Take the money you would spend on a Rolex do the following: 1) Pay a couple of guys to push your car over a cliff 2) Put a down payment on a real car
