Hopefully my Intermountain FChat brothers can help me out on this one. :)

I live in UT for one week every month. I just bought a used 2007 GMC Denali up in WA (where I live the rest of the month) and brought it down to my UT residence. I want to register the new car in Utah (for a number of reasons). I took it to a local GMC dealer here in Provo today to do some warranty work (leaky oil pan) and I also asked them to also do an emissions and safety inspection at the same time so I could register the car in UT.

As expected, emissions were fine, and safety was all fine... except that aftermarket tinted driver and passenger windows are apparently too dark (I think they are 40%, and the law is something like 20%). Sigh. I've driven tinted window cars down here in UT for years, and I've found that if you're driving sanely, and you're not a punk kid in a lowered import tuner, they tend to let the tint slide (and yes, I've rolled down plenty of tinted windows to hand my license and registration to Utah troopers over the years without any of them even mentioning it). I really don't want to have to scrape off this tinting - I love a black SUV with tinted front windows. :)

So... does anyone know of any safety inspection shops in Utah County (heck, I'd be willing to drive north if I had to) that would be... uh... ahem... um... well... a little more "lenient "on granting a pass so I can get my car registered down here? If so, please PM me - this probably isn't a discussion we should be having in public. :)

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve

My corvette has had the same problem since I bought it in '04. Almost limo tint on the windows. Every two years when I go in for the inspection, I make sure it's a nice day, roll down the windows and pull the electric window fuse.

    Haven't had a problem.
