I am a car enthusiast and I am interested in finding for purchase an early 750 Abarth Zagato or Record Monza Zagato or other Abarth from the early sixties. Does anyone know of any cars in nice shape for sale. Any help would be appreciated. I do have a very beautiful 1972 Porsche 911S coupe for possible trade for the right car.
    Thanks,
    Scott Marshall

Seems to me very difficult to find these cars, I have been looking for a while now. Also, it seems to me that prices are moving quickly, in the wrong direction for us, I'm afraid.

Thanks so far for the replies. I think the white one was probably a good car, but was sold. The other car I'm not sure about. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

I have a 65 TC/Corsa that I am just not using anymore and have too many cars. I will send you pictures if you are interested in a 600 based car. The car is a reproduction but very good. Let me know.

I was looking for a Double Bubble or RM and eventually gave up. I bought this replica vintage racer and am awaiting transport from Germany.

That's a neat car. What kind of racing are you plannning for it? And David, thanks for the post about your 600 based car. I am still looking for a Zagato car, burt who knows, I may change my mind if I don't find something.

I don't know that I'll vintage race it. If I do I guess it will be with VARA, my local group (Los Angeles area.) But they require a lot of modern safety equipment, and while I understand the advantages of it, I'm not so keen on destroying the vintage character of the car.

My Dad had a Fiat 850 Sport, the two door hard top coup.
You can almost build a nice Abarth from one of these now.

I found when looking for a Double Bubble that's it's hard to figure how much they should be worth. Just a few years ago you could get the nicest ones for about $25K, and now they're twice that. I know all collector cars have gone up, but not that much. And since the original cars had tiny drum brakes that were criticized even back then for not being adequate and very fragile engines, no cars are original any more. And if you found one that was original, and therefore logically the most valuable, it would be basically useless on today's roads. Updated ones with disc brakes and a 1050 engine would drive better, but they would be far from original. A Catch 22.

We had a green 68 Abarth 1000 ots that was nearby. I coulda bought he car for under $1000, if I had the money, I was 14 and it was 25+ years ago. I did take some pictures of it. I would love to buy it now. I took some of the pictures up to the dmv a few years ago. They wouldn't confirm or tell me anything about what happened to the license #, so who knows where it's at. I saw a 850 racer in the junk yard at that time also. I did get a decal (said Fiat racer) off of it , but it got crushed. The 1300 ots would be really cool to get. I have Fiat 500 now that I thought about making an Abarth clone.

Thanx for the compliment. This car is a charm indeed. Just looking at it makes you smile, and when you drive it,...such a FUN car. You can almost feel Mr. Abarth's passion. Jimmy

    jimmy,
How does that 1050 push that DB along??? Hopefully you have upgraded the brakes to match the engine! I have one that I vintage race. It has an original 600 engine that has been punched out to about 830cc's. Runs great, but doesn't want to stop with the drum brakes.

Yours look in great shape and well looked after. Mine has an A112 engine. The former owner took the job the do full restoration both in and out. As you suspected, the brakes are discs and they stop w/o any problems. Glasses were replaced w/ plexiglass, got roll cage, new gas tank w/ foam inside, short gear shifts, etc. etc. It is in excellent running condition w/o any hesitations. Recently, I found out that it also has an auxilliary sub-radiator. Thanx again w/ smiles Jimmy

Thanks James for being on the lookout, I appreciate the heads up.
Not a very good listing with minimal pics and info though. I think the fender flares most likely are a later addition. I have found a possible car. It is a late Record Monza series 2 with a front grill opening for the front radiator. It looks good so far and I am planning to go look at it in person.

ah..james....remember the fiat 600 on [i think] villa st with a fiat 1100 in the back??well that turned up years later and it was actually a stanguallini f-jr engine that went back into a f-j car and raced csrg for years....

currently i don't know of any alloy bodied 600 based cars but a neighbor has an abarth scorpione ss..basically an 850 pan with a lombardi OTAS body but with abarth modified 1300 and full berlina corsa suspension and all the abarth bits intact...it's the real deal and one of only a few left.

was there a "series II" record monza?? could it be a monomille or a bialbero rm with a mouth installed later??gee- i did that a few times myself.

and then there was the 1300 periscopio and the 1600 ot [an 850 sedan with full race suspension and a twincam 1600 engine...shoulda kept some of those things.

    Dave:
Take a look at these pictures. The silver car is the one I am looking at. The mouth could have been done later. It has the uncovered headlights of later cars and the back of the later cars had the multiple vent cutouts in the bodywork rather than the two rectangular openings low on the body. One picture shows a car with the earlier rectangular vents. The rear lights and licence lights were different than earlier cars. Has anyone seen one with the grill opening like this?
Here are some pictures of the silver car I am looking at and a similar red car.
