Considering buying a 1997 355 6 speed. I am 6'2", any problem for me fitting into the car? Also any pervasive problems with the 355. Engine out service is based on mileage, am I correct? I will appreciate any feedback also if you know of a prime example for sale, please let me know.
    Thank you

I guess it depends on leg and body length. I'm 6' 3" with long legs. I have no problems with head height, but as the steering wheel is not adjustable for distance, I do tend to sit upright to have my arms in the right position for proper steering control. You need a certain amount of body flexibility because the car is low and, if you park in tight places, you may have to perform gymnastics to get out of the car: The doors are "thick" and you really need to open them wide to get out. I put foam/rubber strips on my garage walls to get the maximum opening angle without damaging the paint.

Discussed at length in other threads. 3~5 years based on mileage. Some are willing to stretch it further.

If you can find one in your area, go try to sit in it. It's a bit awkward no matter what. Pedals middle to right, seat and roofline low, big steering wheel. I'm 5'9 and the car fits well until I put a helmet on. My fix was to put Lotus Exige seats in mine and that helped fit and comfort significantly.

They will cost money. Either you buy one in great shape or it'll cost a bit to get it right.
Once it is right, it's great. I've taken mine to 2 track days in the last month and it just works. I can't say that about any other car I've owned in the last decade.

As Qavion said, it's a personal choice. I'm in the 5-7 year camp with how little I drive the car normally.

I am 6'2" and I fit great in my 355 GTS. I am long in my torso with shorter legs so I tend to fit well in typical Italian seating and steering wheel positions. Even with my long torso I have plenty of headroom and find the interior quite spacious and large for an exotic sports car. Hope this helps you.

Pervasive problems are numerous, but most are one time fixes. Main issues off the top of my head...Catalytic converters disintegrate, throwout bearing fails, headers can melt (usually related to cat converters), timing belt tensioner bearings can fail, shock motors can fail, plastics get sticky and leather shrinks.

My car has had 4 of those failures, along with valve guides (which is mainly an early 355 issue), 2 of them in my ownership (shock motors, and throwout bearing). Mine also caught on fire due to a sudden oil leak on track, but was quickly put out and didn't do much damage.

They're temperamental italian race cars pumping out an unheard of at the time for a street car 109bh per liter, but so worth the trouble. I will never sell mine as I can't imagine what other car I'd rather have in its place tbh.
