i'm doing a restoration on my '72 gts and i'm trying to track down an original sigla windshield. there seem to be plenty of remakes around but i'm hoping to get an original.
anyone out there have one for sale?
    any suggestions are welcome.
    thanks.

I know Dennis McCann has ordered them in the past but it's not worth bringing in just one. Why don't we see how many people want one and then find out what kind of deal he can do. You can put me down for one as Sigla is the way to go for me.

Although the windshield is perfect on my Dino, I can easily imagine that it won't always stay that way, so, if you find out about price and availability, please post because I'm interested too.

real nice guy and we were on the phone for a while. now, all be aware that i am no expert in the arena of ferrari parts and actual restoration. that said, here is what dennis told me.
the original sigla glass was made in germany and a few years ago he tried to get glass from them, but to no avail. there is a man in the u.k., steve pelpington(sp?) that has the license to make sigla windshields. the 'bug' is about 2-3 times bigger than the original one and i believe he said it has both sigla/pelpington on it in black. in the past if he wanted to order some made to his specs(i guess with the bug as he wants it) he had to order 10 at a time. i told him that we might have five interested parties right here and he said he would give a call over there and see if he can get an order to accommodate fewer people. the price depends on currency, which doesn't bode well for us right now, so he figures it would probably cost somewhere around $1200. that price is not firm of course.

he said to give him a week or two to make some calls and then he'll be in touch with me. this may not be enough information for anyone out there to make a decision, but as of now that's all we have.
let me know of any feedback and i'll be in touch when dennis gets back to me.

Dennis is a straight-up kind of guy. If he works out something for us that meets his requirements, count me in.

fifteen years ago, I restored a daytona and one of the things I replaced was the original Sigla windshield. The original one was out of the car and there were some separations between the layers of glass (laminations?) I put a new Sigla windshield on the car, and stored the older one in a storage room in the original crate. I wonder what it looks like right now...would be interesting to go look.

In my conversations with McCann he said he didn't think Sigla was the original glass in a Dino but the replacement glass that Ferrari supplied. Anyone with a Dino with an absolutely for sure original glass in it?

Here's the best photo I could get of the windshield ID on my 72 Dino. It's obviously not a Sigla.

Maybe some of you can tell if it's original or not. I'm told by the previous owner (2nd owner) that the sticker on the inside of the windshield, in front of the rearview mirror, is the original delivery ID that was affixed to the windshield when the original owner picked the car up at the Factory in 1972. If this is true one might deduce that the original for the Dino, at least on my car, was not a Sigla. Or, somebody's going to the trouble of transfering stickers - doesn't look like it! There must be other unmolested Dinos out there with original windshields.

Dennis McCann told me that Ferrari used several different brands of glass on the Dino. Those he mentioned were VIS, S Gobain, Securit, Sicursiv (on my Dino). Sigla may have been one also. I'm told judges don't take points off for replaced glass so we should be concerned more about what is available now and in the future rather than what was "original", and most likely, not available in any event! So, if Sigla is the only option that's fine with me.

Call Lo-Can Glass at (800) 345-9595. Their web site is www.locanglass.com

I waited for 8 months for Dennis McCann, Shelton Ferrari, Ferrari North America and 1st Class Auto Body to find me a windshield for my 308. 3 windshields were fitted (2 from FNA, 1 from McCann)...none fit...Sikurit in the Netherlands is trying to correct the problem (Sigla closed and blue prints bought by Sikurit).

I was looking through Forza Magazine and saw Lo-Can Glass. I called them and they had ORIGINAL Sigla windshield for $800 + $90 shipping. Got the windshield and it fit perfectly...call them and see if they have glass for your car.

    Good luck.

...and got the following response. still nothing from mccann.

    Dear Mark,

We can get a Pilkington Triplex (not Sicursiv) windshield (part #HT 554) from our supplier overseas - delivery would be AT LEAST 2 months. The price for non-tinted is $975.00, for tinted is $1,109.00 or for shaded is $1,201.00. Please note that there is an additional $35.00 boxing/crating fee plus $130.00 freight to a Commercial address in Oregon. One last thing, we would require a 50% deposit before ordering.

I hope this helps and please let us know if we can be of any more assistance. Thank you.
