    Hi Paul. How goes?

Did you ever get any info on the 288 that was at LMC? Has it sold?

I didnt know LMC had one, I remember seeing one do donuts in the intro to the show though. I think he still has that daytona too, been asking too much for that one for years.

    Paul,

GTOs are not that hard to find...

Euro-Classics always has at least one, and he confirms he has one right now.

Classic Driver seem to have at least 2 available at any time throughout the year and one is currently advertised by a Far East dealer confirmed available right now.

I have one available with all of 35,733km on the clock right now.

I have another with just 700km on the clock right now.

I sold one this past month for $645k.

One sold this past week from an Ohio-based dealer for $640k he tells me.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

good cars are good cars...if buyer and seller can be matched up without a needless commission and extra interest to go through, I say that is a win-win proposition....a thorough and knowledgeable ppi along with complete service records will provide more info than any sales pitch...

I mean its just selling a car, its not rocket science.

PPIs through an authorized Ferrari dealer, full service records, historical background, factory production information, chain of ownership, are all par for the course in my modus operandii.

A well-informed specialist can save a buyer a small fortune and can be an asset to an astute collecter in getting them what they want in short order. Specialists can be an important go-between to make things happen between two collectors that otherwise would never happen in a milion years.

The point to remember is that its not always a car can be sold owner-to-owner across the garden fence. The last time I recall that happening with a Malibu-based client of mine, he called me to handle it and to make sure the car "was all that and more" as he put it...

In fact, if I had a medical issue, Id go to a specialist, and not directy to a pharmacy (although some DO with disastrous consequences!)

No 'middleman' would be nice in theory but he can act as a filter at both ends of the deal. That works for the potential buyer wasting time chasing phantom cars. Also for the seller who doesn't want to be dealing with people who won't ultimately purchase the car.
Not everyone is in the 'know' and some simply are not interested in the 'chase'. All they are interested in, is the result of a transaction. Not everyone lives and breathes Ferrari...

Us people in the car biz need to make a living too. I find people always feel the need to cut us out in one way or another. At this level of car there is nothing wrong with a capable broker who will do all the right steps to make this happen. All of course at a reasonable rate and providing they are reputable.

People at the higher level just don't have the time, patience or even the know-how to aquire such cars. The right cars and of course at the right market price.

    Hear hear.

Im not naive: people in the car biz dont always have the best reputation, and few really strive for excellence. But some of us do, and they say it shows. There are just as many flaky & shady lawyers/doctors/accountants/businessmen/whatever out there, so to stereotype is just arrogant ignorance.

Just like the cars we love, you have to view each situation on its own merit, and if you havent driven said car before, youve really no business commenting on its handling!

Newman: thanks for the e-mail. Pics sent. No "sales pitch", just a nice well-maintained 288 GTO. If this one doesnt work, I'll be happy to work till I find what you need...

And not to discredit my friend Jas here. We all know some of the big deals happen behind closed doors ;) Between friends and collectors etc. Jas, has his hands in some spectacular cars so his word has alot of experience and weight behind it too. But in alot of cases some "paid" assistance helps :)

Ok i'm done. Paul, sorry for hi-jacking :D Good luck with the deal and let us know how it pans out brother.

Let me add my 2 cents.........

I don't sell cars.........I sell my experience with them.

For example........I have had roughly 1,000 Porsches go thru my hands over almost 2 decades in the bizz.........what is that worth to a buyer ?

You're gonna pay one way or the other......and while the degree of that payment varies wildly, it is usually better to pay me, or someone else, for that experience, than pay a shop later on for the lack of same.

Also, lots of my clients just can't be bothered with the playing private vendor routine.....it gets old really fast for most.

hahaha Vasco, no need to worry ! I don't feel discredited, and there is room for all types of transactions and salesman. I enjoy the hunt, and enjoy matching up people with cars whenever possible. The payment is not in dollars, but in satisfaction that real enthusiasts have scored good cars that mean a lot to them.
