In the parts sticky, a Stant 11229 and 11230 are listed as coolant caps that will work. I picked up a 11229 "equivalent" at Napa and it was a little too small. Can someone verify the fit of either the Stant 11229 or the 11230? This would be for a '78 308.

Yes they work. I have a 79, and it fit perfectly. You can pick one up at Pep Boys, if you have one in your area. If not, they probably have them at Autozone.

As a very-good mechanic has pointed out to me, one must NOT assume that just-because a cap will fit does not mean that it will 'work'. I'd test it before driving off with it - if it doesn't hold the correct pressure, I'd return it for a refund/exchange. I bought a brand-new cap from Rutlands, and within four months it wouldn't hold its correct 0.9 BAR pressure rating.

My cap has been on for about three years, and it works great!

11230 fits fine here. Seating depth is almost the same, the Fcar cap seat is just a tiny bit deeper by my measurements, I figure at most the Stant cap is down rating about 1-1.5 PSIG due to possible mount seating depth difference.

I did have to work the cap on and off a few times until was real happy about being installed, it went one way, but wouldn't go on 180 degrees rotated at first.

What pressure do you need? I may have an extra Ferrari coolant cap in my little box of extras that you are welcome to. Its for a Mondial 3.2, but I think they are all the same. Just let me know.

For some reason the factory caps do not work on my 328! I have two (.9 and 1.1 bar) that always cause the coolant to overflow. I use one from Pep Boys that is problem free.

Several years ago, a Ferrari dealer confirmed to me that some of the coolant tanks were made with slightly too-deep necks. I had the "overflow all the time" problem (even after bleeding and with new caps) so I put a fender washer in the neck, which raised the seating surface just enough that the problem went away and has never come back in over five years!

You just need to adjust the cap a little to make it fit easier. Take a pair of needle nose plyers and bend each tab on the cap . Do a little at a time and when it fits you'll know. Mine has been on for 5 years and no problems.

Thanks for your input everyone. I stopped off at a parts store on my way home and got the Stant. It's a little tight but seems to be ok.
