Has anyone had any experience with Cannillo Motorsports in Deer Park, L.I.? Not looking to flame anyone. Just would like to know your experience before a possible purchase. Good/bad....please contact me offline at [email protected]. Thanks.

For me Mike seems like a straight talker.. on the phone. Put a deposit down on a car (Black 308 GTB) that showed well on the web site. However, I felt the dealership should have been a bit more forthcoming with some problems the car had: blew white smoke out of the L tailpipes, broken engine compartment latch, pitted wheels, no belt on air compressor and frozen air compressor.... for me those were reasons enough not to close the purchase.

I did get a PPI w/ CarChex... and while I was upset at spending $200 on a car I would not have had inspected knowing those facts in advance... it was well worth the money to know the true condition of the vehicle. My advice... get any Ferrari regardless of whom the seller is a PPI. Would I buy from Cannillo Motorsports? Hmmmm, probably if I were to see another car on their lot and they were a bit more candid about it. After all you cannot hide from an inspection! PS: He did refund the $500 no questions asked.

Having dealt wih Mike for a while, I find him sincere. He usually gets his vehicles checked out and repaired prior to them selling. My personal experience is I bought a Lotus 7 (1970) from him serveral years ago. Not your average car. He explained there was a problem with the milage on the car. The speedo read 19,--- and the paper work claimed 50,000. Now this is a track Lotus 7, neither made any sense. I found out later that the seedo is phony and the car never had a working speedo. The car itself is probably very marginally street legal with a phony speedo and phony gas guage. I still have the car and it is a great toy.

Unfortunately after a 3 month search for the right 308 / 328 GTB I came up empty. Selling my BMW 2002tii I needed some real transportation.. fell in love with and bought a 2002 Maserati GT Coupe (all in all a very civilized road car with a splash of exotic and the functionality of being able to haul my 2 little kids on road trips). The 308.. intended for a 288GTO conversion will just have to wait a year or two.

Looking at Jim Carpenter (AZ) versus Berlinetta Motor Cars (NY) to do the work. Has anyone in this forum an opinion? Both want about $50K for the job + a donor car.

    Ciao,

I'm sorry you didn't like the car Dr. Saleeby, it was actually quite a nice car. Plus the car was just serviced within the past 6 month including 5 new TRX tires, new brakes incl. rotors and brake booster, new shocks all around plus the major service(new seals, distributor service, timing belts, full tune-up etc...) was done. Over $12,000 was spent on the car within the last 6 months right before you did a PPI. I have all the records. In response to your list of problems the car had, the white smoke was from condensation in the exhaust. At the time the engine had no issues, it's fully serviced and bone dry with no leaks internal or external. Regarding your other claims, yes they are true, front hood latch was broken, the air pump (emissions) wasn't working and it's belt was off. In my opinion, these are minor issues and I would have fixed them for you if necessary. I wasn't aware of them at the time we spoke before you did the PPI. I had physically got he car in on trade 1 week before you did your PPI. Please feel free to call me if you wish to discuss this matter further. I don't want to see you unhappy about your PPI or your Ferrari experience with me. I'd like to work it out with you. Please accept my apoligies for any misrepresentation.

    Nice reply Mike

I believe that says it all about you and your dealership. Imagine that...a dealer willing to stand behind his reputation. Even on a Non Sale.
