I have been looking for a Diablo for a while now, but this has become challenging and I am not sure what to truly look for. Advice would be greatly appreciated. I am a Porsche and Ferrari fan. Have a couple of 911 and a TR, and have been on REnnlist and Ferrarichat for a while. Never even knew that a Lambo section was on here.

So, please throw whatever info you have got. I am not looking for a garage queen, but not high miles either. Pricing help would be good too, since the range in $$ is huge. What is service and repairs like, for example compared to my TR? I know Porsches are just plain cheap to maintain compared to a Ferrari.

    Thanks to all,

    Alex

    Dear Alex:

With Diablo autos, you have a large price spread, between the bottom and top monetary valued cars.

You have nice 50K KM 1991-1992 Diablo 2wd autos, that are mechanically current, with a starting price of around 85K+. At the same time, you have low mile late model roadsters, and 2001 6.0 autos, that can bring up to 200K and just beyond. You also have quite a few other Diablo models, that were mixed in between.

You have to decide, which version of the car, you prefer to buy.

Look up on the web, both the Lamborghini Registry and Lamborghini Cars. Both these websites, will provide a lot of information, on the different Diablo versions, that were produced by the company.

If you want a 2wd version, look at the following cars:

    1991-1993 2wd Diablo
    1994 SE 30
    1996 Diablo 2wd
    1998-1999 Diablo SV

    Hi there,

Boy or Boy, I was just in your position. I also drive a 91 TR and just bought a Diablo VT roadster. I added the Diablo, not replaced the TR.

I too was looking for over a year and a half. The Diablo market is sooo small, there really isn't that much choice.

I don't know about the 85K US price. That's sort of a myth I myself could never find. ( would have liked to :) )

    Early Diablos 91 -93 now go for 110k - 120K
    94 -96 VT's go for 125K to 139K
    96 -99 VT roadsters go for 179k - 239K
    6.0 2001 go for 165K - 210K

This pricing is NOT exact. It's just what I found in my searching in the last few months.

You do have other models like the SV and special edition cars like the Monteray, MOMO and Millenium ...not market norm pricing

The Diablo is a great comparison to a TR in maintence.....read expensive! At least you're already used to it :)

TR has an engine out for the timing belts...5 yrs or 30K. Diablo has an engine out for only the clutch....at least it doesn't have a "time" interval. Cost is about the same 8k- 12k depending on the "while you're in there"

What year area are you looking for? 2wd or Vt ?

    Let us know

    Shamille,

Your prices are dealer asking prices. In the past 6 months, I have seen several early Diablos selling anywhere from $79K to $90K.
I also know 2 high mileage cars that will be in the market in the $80K range, so it is not a myth, you just have to keep your eyes open.
FWIW, I sold my 92 yellow Diablo less than 2 years ago for $78K, and it was perfect.

    hi stephane,

i think you meant $87k not $78k......i still have the paperwork somewhere :) ....

and yes, for a car w/ +28,000 miles on the odometer, mechanically, it ran near perfect as the day it left the factory and cosmetically, it was absolutely beautiful. i wish to have kept it longer.....

    Tom,

You're killing me!!! I am still looking for that perfect car, or even nearly as good as that one. I wonder if I should ask G. Evans to put that same Quicksilver exhaust in it when I do find one.

Thanks to everyone. I am keeeping the TR. Absolutely love it. My 911 C2S though, runs circles around the Ferrari, but then again, they are different cars. The TR just brings that satisfaction and the build quality is pretty different too.

Anyhow, this brings to the Diablo. At this time, it seems they have stabilized in pricing and I have been looking for 6 mos. or so. I am leaning towards the 2wd. I think the VT roadster is a bit out of my price range. Does it have more flex? I know my 911 Cabrio exhibits flex, no where near as robust as the coupe.

I have received some private messages and will be contacting a few new sources that I had no idea about.

Another question is about the service intervals. Should the clutch be done before I purchase a Diablo. Is it based on time/mileage? As far as the engine, water pump, belts, what is the duration? What about valves, are they self-adjusting, or not? I must say, I have had a great experience with my TR, it's just been solid as heck. No issues, except for routine stuff at all.

    Thanks again,

    Alex

    Dear Scaledetails,

Honestly, I could not find anything at those low prices. I will agree with you about the "2 years ago...." but not nowadays.

What I have found is that even the privately owned cars are sold on consignment at the "dealers" .

My usual runthrough was the autotrader.com, dupont registry.com, ebay ( for reference only) Premier ( Chris ) and of course....Catsexotics.com

I bugged my local Lambo dealer in Orlando...ulitmate motorworks for six months with no Diablo available. Even Don L Leasing ( desparate measures :) ) didn't have anything. I even remember when they had an orange 6.0 for 157k about 2 yrs ago...it wouldn't move at all. Now? ...Hmmm

I just think the market has changed drastically. Y'all have been owners for a while....why would you be keeping up with pricing. I was looking to buy...with cash in hand....couldn't find the mythical 85K 91-92 Diablo.

...you better hurry up and buy one...any decision...VT or not to VT ? :)

    Cafebisque,

No time intervals on major stuff.....NO TIMING BELTS ( YAY ! ) The other stuff, the longtime owners need to weigh-in .

BTW, Tomf1's 96 is 132K .....sort of in the range I was mentioning.
