Note: This post is of a commercial nature but hopefully it will be tolerated since it could very well be a dream job for someone on here. In fact, it is rumored that more than a few members on this board have already helped us by having their vehicles recorded. :)

Microsoft Games Studios is a looking for a top notch, experienced Sound Designer to work as a contractor on our AAA internally developed racing game, “Forza Motorsport”.

The ideal candidate must have existing knowledge of Pro Tools on OSX as well as general knowledge of PC Sound Editing tools and processes. Previous experience as a Sound Designer on a shipping title in the past is a must. Candidate must understand the general process involved with implementing sounds via scripted procedures. Passion for racing and general automotive knowledge is a huge plus.

The ideal candidate will be able to answer questions like: What are the differences between a turbo and supercharger and at a basic level how do they work and sound? What car audio source could you substitute for an Acura NSX? What is the fundamental difference in sound between 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 cylinder engines? Because we have a huge base of the work already completed, this assignment will largely involve fixing bugs, polishing sounds, and mixing. It is expected that this will be about a 3-4 month contract.

    Location: Redmond, WA
    Pay: $25/hr (approximate)

Send Resumes to [email protected] (this is not me)

    Thanks!

    Joel

PS: I have nothing to gain personally (e.g. no kickback, no finders fee, etc.) from finding this person, I simply have a vested interest in helping the audio team on Forza find strong talent for this challenging role.

looks like it'll be a cool game though! i watched a trailer - is there a 550 in there or just the modena?

    g/l wrapping the beast up!

I am a Very Experienced Sound Designer,
    So here are my comments....

#1. If your initial recordings were done on a dyno,
then they are all tainted with the sound of the dyno brake
and will not be a true representation of the engine sound you were trying to capture.
I have listened to many cheesy recordings done on a dyno, and they all sound bad.

Hopefully, the field recordist was also able to record on a closed circuit with the proper equipment, such as multiple mics, engine bay, car interior, wheel well exterior, exhaust exterior, stereo spread on road course, doppler... I use 8 mics synced during a recording like this.

#2. Microsoft is well aware of what a professional sound designer makes,
so by stating a $25.00 per hour rate, you have effectively eliminated anyone of professional caliber, and limited yourself to a tinkering hobbyist who as you put it, would find this to be a dream job.
Sorry guys, but you are not going to find someone who as you put it has "Previous experience as a Sound Designer on a shipping title in the past is a must" for $25 an hour.

    Good Luck on your project.

Agreed, $25 an hour is insane. Hell, any good sound engineer made well over $100/hr back in 1985!
