    ISBN: 0760325502

Also Ferrari UK used to publish a good guide - ask our sponsors !

This is a book review I wrote for the Ferrari Owners Club (UK) web-site.

"Ferrari Road & Racing by Winston Goodfellow.

At first glance this looks like another glossy, coffee-table, pot-boiler. You know the type of thing; every Ferrari in photos and descriptions. And to some extent that's what it is – to some extent.

The book is divided into four main sections; The Ferrari Story; The Road Cars; The Sports-Racing cars; The Formula 1 cars. In all nearly 100 models are featured.

Each tipo is illustrated with beautiful colour photos (usually of beautifully restored cars), a written description, and a `tech spec' panel. The technical details are a bit sparse but the `tech spec' panel lists the number of cars built – so that's a bit different.

The Sports-Racing section also includes the GT racers such as the 250GTO, Daytonas and BB/LMs etc. Again the photos are usually of restored cars, but interspersed amongst them are contemporary racing photos. Some of them are quite interesting as Goodfellow has not picked the usual race winner photos, but there are no captions, which is particularly frustrating as there's no way of identifying the driver or event.

But what makes this a bit different from the usual pot-boilers is that author Goodfellow has gone further than just restating technical details. He widens the narrative, and makes it more interesting, by quoting key players in the development of the particular tipos, or by quoting contemporary commentators.

Goodfellow has also added an interesting final section `Pivotal Figures in the Ferrari Story' which features thumb-nail sketches of majot players such as Giannia Agnelli, Luigi Chinetti, Mauro Forghieri etc.

One gets the feeling that the author has tried to put together something just a little better, just a little bit more useful than the usual `all the Ferraris' type of book, and I think he's succeeded.

    Hard-back book. Size 300mm x 220mm. 320pages. £17.99 UK
    ISBN 1-4127-1204-1"

I don't think there is a book with the complete spec of ALL Ferrari models - something usually gets left out. Hope this helps.
    Nathan
