I am in town for 4 nights and looking to eat well, all I see is buffets. I saw a Ruth Chris on the way from the airport, but have eeaten there numerous times. I am looking for good local food that is not a chain. I am staying in Barefoot Landing. I would appreciate any help and thanks in advance.

Okay take this with a grain of salt because it has been *many* years since I have been there but this used to be a good local place:

I like the Rioz Brazilian Restaurant about a block north-east of Broadway at the Beach.

    http://www.rioz.com/

It is buffet for salads and appetizers and then the waiters bring the grilled beef, pork, and lamb to your table to select from.

Rioz gets two thumbs up from me. Everything at Rioz is fabulous (the bread is unbelievable). We just ate there in July.

I have a house down there and there are many great spots. Rockefellers for lobster chunks my favorite dish locally, also near there is the 39th st grill which has 7.95 king crab legs every day all day not a all you can eat, it's small but good food also sushi. In the same plaza the wine shop there holds a wine tasting from 6 to 9 pm Friday and Saturday no purchase nessassary but they do have a great selection of high end wines there. The owners are from Napa Valley and are very knowledgalbe and friendly. Thoroughbreds steak house surrounded by all the pealler bars ate there a few weeks ago for the first time best prime rib ever and I have eaten at some of the best prime rib places in the country and hands down it was the best experience. There are a few others but cant think of them at the moment.

    Good luck

I have not been able to try Rioz yet but have heard a lot good about it, and I love churrascarias.

If you like Bistro type food & fresh baked goods, Croissants Bistro is terrific - http://www.croissants.net/index.php

If you're willing to drive a little south to Pawley's Island, Lee's Inlet Kitchen is excellent seafood in a nice/casual atmosphere. A touch expensive but large portions and delicious.

Myrtle Beach has the greatest selection of bad restaurants in the U.S. Let me second Rockefeller's; it's casual but has good food; been around for years. Thoroughbreds is about as good as you can get in MB.
