I am currently looking for what will be my first Ferrari. After many, many, many hours of research and weighing out pro's and con's, I have finally decided that the car for me will be a 95 F355 Spider. I'm not super picky on color, but red would be fantastic.

Hopefully I can find one that has been maintained and at a minimum had the valve guides replaced. I'm looking to keep it under $60K for a nice clean car with reasonable miles. I have seen quite a few exchange hands in the last couple years ranging in price from high $40's to high $50's, so I think my budget is reasonable.

I hope to join the ranks soon!

Check ebay and cars.com, there are always plenty of spiders to choose from. Just make sure you do a proper PPI since the quality of the car can vary greatly. If it seems like a deal too good to be true, it is :)

Spiders are super sexy! I waivered back and forth when I was looking. Good luck and the information you will find here will be near priceless. Welcome, and wait for the right one. Post pics when you find one that you like. The guys here will help you with what a fair price is and what to look for. I just bought mine instanly when I say it on the showroom! The price was fair, but I've learned alot replacing things now that I would have looked for that day.

When you say you have learned a lot replacing things that you would have looked for, is it more than the common items discussed here? Valve guides, exhaust manifolds, stickies, convertible top operation, etc...?

What was your biggest surprise repair item?

Why a 95? Yes, I know it's a 2.7 Motronic, but for your 1st Ferrari, does that matter that much to you?

95 will give the OP less to worry about.

    No fobs. :)

No problems with tubi or Capristo exhausts... :)

But he wants a spider so add those :(

95 cars have M2.7 OBD1 engine management system two airboxes with separate inlet pipes yielding 5 more hp over the M5.2 96+ cars. Not saying that is a huge deal, but the 95 seems to be the one for me. I understand that by 99, the valve guide issue appears to have been rectified, but that's why I say I am looking for a 95 that has had the valve guides replaced.

I did see the ones on that auction site we all know and love, but the low mile one on there has not had the valve guides replaced and it is a few $$$$$$$$$ above what I would like to spend.

I hope something comes up soon. I'll just keep looking until I find what suits me.

I'm just wondering what the "surprise" items were since we all know what the usual items are. It's helpful if people post their "surprise" or unusual problems so that others can watch out for the same.

Fwiw that extra 5 hp is an urban legend; I've never seen it confirmed by a dyno or any reputable mechanic. A Gruppe M intake on the other hand.....

Yes, I know all of the differences between 2.7 and 5.2 cars.

I was just wondering why the OP really cared that much. Obviously, he's done a lot of research, so my question is answered. :)

rear shocks, motor mounts, headers, cv boots, ac, all items I didn't even consider that all needed to be replaced on a 27k 95' car I purchased fairly soon after I purchased it. 38k on it now and no issues and runs phenomenal.

Thanks for the details. I guess one could also say that those items are not specific to 95's, or any year for that matter and could come up with any car at a certain point.
