Hi, I figure I better start off with introducting myself.Being born in 1990 I missed out on pretty much all of racings history. A couple of years ago I started collecting older races to watch them and that more or less changed into an effort of finding as many old television broadcasts as possible, hoping to document (if you can call it that way) the history of the sport. I found out that there are quite a lot of people who have recorded things or are into collecting but only focus on a specific series or category. Ideally, I want to collect everything and as much as possible. I was wondering if there is anyone on this site who has a collection of recordings of races (be it F1, Indycar, sprint cars, CanAm, Le Mans, etc) up until the mid 80s/early 90s. I assume VCRs and tapes costed quite a fortune back then but maybe there is someone on this site who was/is into recording and keeping them? Quality is not such a major issue (as long as it is somewhat watchable) as (especially footage from the 70s and early 80s) is incredibly hard to find. Even though this is in the F1 subforum I'm not specifically after F1 races. I'm interesting in pretty much anything with two or four wheels. I don't know if this goes against the boards rules, if it is my apologies. To make things clear, I am in no way interested in making a profit on things by selling them or putting them somewhere to download. Also, if this is in the wrong subforum, please move it to a more appropriate location. If there are any questions on what I do or anything, please ask. Mark
I do, dozens of VHS reels, centering on F1, but I also have some IMSA, Offshore Powerboat Tour, Tamara McKinney winning her gold downhill ski medal (best post race interview EVAH!!!!) I'll have to get them transferred somehow... Welcome....
Try F1 RACE DVD,FORMULA 1, F1 FULL SEASON BOXSETS 1973-2012. (No affiliation, btw, just found them doing a search a while back...) They advertise full race seasons available going back to the 70's. F1 as well as Indy, season reviews, memorabilia etc. I cannot vouch for them in any way, as I have never bought anything from them. But if that's the sort of thing you're looking for, check them out and let us know what you find. Happy hunting!! Edit: It occurred to me that maybe that site was just Tex cleaning out his storage unit, but I just noticed the prices are listed in Australian dollars. Tex, you're still in the US of A, right?
If you look closer, they're offering only a couple full races for each season in the 70's and 80's. Still a good source for stuff, *IF* they are a genuine seller. To be honest, it appears to be a "Burn On Demand" type seller, making pirate copies of their own collection.
mrva, Are you a member of any private motorsports torrent trackers? I suspect places like that would be easiest place to acquire any vintage footage available. I also manage to get quite a bit of vintage stuff from YouTube... Thanks for the replies so far. I am well aware of that site. Pity is that all of them seem to come from a compressed file converted to DVD which looks much worse than the original. I am a member at the various motorsport trackers too but notice that most of them are compressed files which is not exactly what I am after, I am more interested in genuine DVD copies (even though the source is an old VHS tape). Don't think there is much interest in a technical rant on why it is better but in short, DVDs look much much better and are easier in use. I should have (or know someone who does) most of what is on YouTube, definitely from F1. I don't really want to start a thread on bragging about what I have (but if you're interested, let me know). I was actually more looking for people who videotaped things themselve and have (or are going to) transfer them to DVD, maybe we can work something out. I've been looking to find out what has been broadcasted on TV since the late 40s too. Haven't found much but there is an excellent site somewhere Without wanting to break any rules about advertisement etc, I've made a list of what I found so far on my website: http://motorracingvideoarchive.com/tvbroadcasts.php Still far from complete but was quite surprised to see what was shown, much more than I had thought. Does anybody on this site have more information on this? Mark
You two should get together: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/other-off-topic-forum/395066-transferring-races-vhs-dvd-assistance.html
Thanks for pointing me to that post but I had already found him using the search engine on this board. I've sent him a PM about a week ago as I have a friend in the US who can help him with the tapes.
Get one of these and you're done: Magnavox ZV427MG9 DVD Recorder VCR Combo with HDMI 053818570722 | eBay I just bought one after my previous one (different brand) was done for. Just avoid Sony (and it's subsidiaries).
I have a very large collection of F1 recordings that I recorded myself from 1984-2012. Have just about every race from 1985-2003. About half of the races in 1984 and a good number of races from before 1984. Almost all of the are very high quality as they have been preserved very well. What do you have in your collection?
