    hi there..

    thought I would inquire here..

im looking for 1 F355 front shock part#183633, just the shock/strut nothing else..

in good used condition (obviously no leaks etc)..shipping would be to Montreal.

I have a shop locally that can rebuild a leaking shock.. but I suspect the shock that needs to be replaced has other internal damage as it knocks under certain road conditions.

last season I was unable to avoid a trench in the road going highway speed, I braked slightly reducing maybe to 80kph before going over it..but it was too late and got that horrible suspension bottoming out bang.. after this is when the knocking in the front/left corner started to happen..

I had my tech look over everything.. all is good and tight.. but he sent me this picture.. and can clearly see the plate at top of strut is bent..

come spring time.. I don't want to waste the already 4week down time for a rebuild locally in addition to any unknown extra delays or worst case tells me he cant do it..

so to avoid these unknowns all together.. im looking for the single shock for a direct/easy swap no headaches etc..

I have identified a couple of sources for a single shock..

but if I can find one privately from a fellow member willing to help me out at a "reasonable" price would be ideal..

if you have a shock available and willing to sell it, pm me your asking price.
I have a price range in mind.. and hopefully we can work something out..
like I said.. willing to help me out :)

    thanks

    Tony.

He's the only one I would use for a rebuild anyway.

    hi thanks..
I know of and spoken to Rob at DeltaVee last year very nice guy.. and I actually connected my suspension guy here in Montreal to him.

nonetheless that does not avoid the 4weeks+ downtime in the spring..even if my damaged shock is rebuildable.. the 4weeks is the min turnaround for my suspension guy. not withstanding any other hurdles/setbacks etc..

so that's why im looking for the single used shock for a direct swap..

then I could send my damaged shock to my guy to investigate.. and then keep it as a spare if is fixable etc..

Tony - Problem is, you won't know if a used shock has issues or not...

Hold off a day Brad was at my house last night and i might see him again today and i will put some pressure on him to sell you the shock at what you offered.

indeed the used shock can start to leak eventually in the future..or something else..

but this is where (as with all used items) trust the seller that it is otherwise a good used shock..and I would feel comfortable to buy from someone amongst us.

the shock as is.. is still totally driveable.. and drove the last part of season last year.. as was.. but it knocks now and then..and obviously I hate when I hear it.. in addition to any weakened state that corner is now in.. so im trying to source this over the winter..

I talked to brad he's firm on the price. He said you wanted him to pay shipping and tax;'s for your offer.I think his price is fair because if you buy out of the U.S your going to pay more with exchange, duties, tax's,shipping.I tried Good luck.

Just me but I am not completely convinced just the shock is pooched. Thinking something else as well.

well.. a few days after I first started to hear the knocking after going over the trench

I brought car to my alignment shop.. who setup the alignment earlier last season 5+hrs.

we must have spent an hour looking over, testing, wiggling, shaking and all the geometry was tight.. including the end-links etc..

as this indeed was my first suspicion something got loose.. and was not thinking about the shock itself..

then another couple days after.. brought it to my mechanic, lifted the car, took off wheel, disassembled part of the suspension assembly, where he too confirmed all was tight.. but noticed the damage at the top of the shock..

so he believes something is damaged inside the shock cylinder which is producing the knock sound under certain road conditions etc.. and he even did a road test before hand and heard the knock himself.. and says he's heard it before and it was the shock etc..

anyways not much more I can do at this point, only time will tell if its indeed the shock, after spending some cash for a new/used shock, swap in and test..

I will probably proceed with a source within Canada, but im still open to any offers for a used/good condition front shock.

    well good news..

ive been hunting for a while now for the shock..
got in touch with Punu at Ferrparts..

he offered the best pricing I could find anywhere for 1 used complete front shock assembly
with a 6month warranty on the shock for leaks

so now it will a direct swap come spring time.. and hopefully the knocking in that corner will be gone.. if it doesn't solve it.. then its another ball game I guess. but im pretty sure it should be it.

indeed I spoke to Eurospares previously..

£340 that is just for the shock..+ ~£45 to ship it to Montreal..
so that totals in the vicinity of $481USD..

I got the entire shock assembly ( shock, spring, collars, top mount) as a whole piece
shipped for well less then that.. from FerrParts..

with a 6month warranty on the shock for leaks, which I asked and Eurospares does not offer any warranties on used parts.

as mentioned above.. I could have waited for the spring.. got the shock out and sent to my guy locally to rebuild.. but not only would the car be sitting for 3-4weeks.. also risk my guy may not be able to rebuild it..

so decided to spend a little more.. then it would have already cost me to attempt a rebuild, instead for a direct swap.. and no down time..
