I have been watching and looking for 1978 GTS Tool Kits (Pouch included) as well as Pouch for the owner's manual for about 2 months but so far, I think, the asking price has been very unreasonable. Does anyone out there have any of these things for sale? I am not going to concourse my car, I just want the correct things in it that are right and reasonable.

    Hello from Germany,

regarding the tools; some parts suppliers offer tool rolls, which appear to be similar to those, which came with the car back then. I consider the price as reasonable. I have the same attitude like you, talking about the 'correct things' but no concours originality and I'm happy with one of these tool sets.
    For example;

    http://www.superformance.co.uk/a-308/accessories.htm

For completeness you would have to add the special carburettor wrench, which is - as far as I know - still available at Ferrari UK relatively cheap.

Talking about the manual pouch; o.k. it seems that this requires a little bit more patience than searching for two months.
For myself it took two to three years till I finally got one on ebay Germany for roughly $ 100,-- in mint condition including all the contents.
If you aren't in a hurry and enjoy 'gambling' I'm pretty sure, you can finally get a bargain.
Overprized stuff is for those, who cannot wait :)

    Best Regards

    Martin

To be honest from the sounds of it your budget is more unreasonable than the asking prices !

The going rate for the toolkit is clearly in excess of USD 300 and for the document pouch nothing less - yes you may be very lucky but in this capitalist world is it unreasonable of me to ask why should someone sell these items to you at a discount to the market rate ?

I could very very easily spend a couple of $1,000 each on these items but I think that is unreasonable to do so and I don't condemn anybody from an asking a price that I think is unreasonable. They can do anything they want and I don't have to buy it and they don't even have to sell to me either. There is no law against that I know. There is a point in my mind which is fair. I am looking for that which is fair. I may not find it but there is no harm in asking and I will keep looking. If I look long enough it probably would pay to buy them now as opposed to waiting with interest and inflation but it is the principle of the thing.

Hang in there, the tool roll is available new sometimes, I know they were at one time, trouble is the falling dollar is killing us right now...

Do you mean the leather pouch only or do you need books? I sold an unwanted '78 Owner's Manual recently for $40......so there's a few kind hearted folks left...

OTOH, I have seen my complete Books/pouch togther from a wrecked 1977 car and they were asking $5K

Check FerrariLiterature, avoid ************ and let TRutlands and GT Car Parts know you are looking..

Thanks for the link Martin on the tools, you are right the later tool rools only need the Weber Carb tool added to be complete for the early car!! Pierce is who supports Weber in the USA...

That Superformance set does not look very convincing to me

As at this morning the official Ferrari classic parts in the uk not only have the carb tool but also the tool kit 123254 - have you even asked them ?

I don't know with what the US cars came, but the books for the Euro GTB/GTS carb era didn't come in a leather pouch but in that brown cloth pouch with the many black horseys.

I just logged in at Ferrari UK. Yes, the toolkit is GBP 211,50 incl. VAT ,-- ( ~ $ 320,-- ) and they have less than 5 pcs. in stock. Don't know anymore how much I paid.
I purchased one back in 2003 or 04 when they were still a FChat sponsor with lively contributions here and we got a FChat discount.
    Those were the days.

    Best Regards from Germany

It is a shame we lost our 'inside man' at Ferrari UK...if i were the Original Poster I'd get that one..

Jimmie the superformance one is labeled as repro 'fascimile"..it doesn't have the real Ferrari items.
