I'm on the look out... once again for a job in the IT industry. I'm currently employed, but am forced to do sub-par work due to failed promises regarding benefits and well below par when it comes to salary. This isn't the way I prefer to work. I like to get things done and make sure they work correctly. The company I currently work for has decided to outsource a lot of my responsibilities and downgrade my position.

I've got plenty of experience, dating back to Novell 3.12 in 1993 to a current AD Win2003 network with other misc. servers ranging from Solaris, SGI, IRIX and a handful of Linux systems that are backed up using Legato, which I'm moving over to Vertias' BackupExec. I also have some Nortel phone experience as well.

If you are interested, or know someone that is interested, please let me know. I'd prefer to work for a small to medium size business, either from the ground up or building up expanding businesses and infrastructures.

If you are needing something on a personal basis, I can advise for free for Fchat members, or will work for bargain prices for Fchat members. Need to clean up the spyware on a system? Just ask away or bring it along to one of the local gatherings.

Thanks for looking, because... you just never know when a good opportunity is there unless you look for it.

Gotta tell ya Randy, that 'sub par work' comment makes it sound like you've quit doing good work because your company has made some decisions you don't agree with. If that's the case, I wouldn't hire you and I wouldn't suggest to anyone I know that they hire you.

Hope my interpretation of your comment is wrong.

Jim, good point on my attitude there, but interpreted a little more harsh than I intended. I've not stopped, but have been informed not to do certain things and either a) let the outsourced consultants work it out at their 125-150 an hour budget or to b) let it blow up in front of the powers that be to let them realize how thin I'm spread. A frightening direct order at that. My ideal place at work is one where I'm counted on to get things done right the first time; an IT person that you don't need to call and complain to because things are working right.

I hope this clarifies a bit. But again, being forced to do it this way... it just isn't a professional business practice.

edit: regarding company decisions, it's always been my job to work with what I'm thrown at, regardless of the decision. I'm the one that has to make it work, even if it is not the best decision. I could give you concrete examples, but that's not the point of this particular post nor thread.
