Hit up some antique stores in your area. That would be the best place to find one. Also the yard sales. You could also check some furniture stores, I believe Ashley would have one. Depends on what you wanna pay for it I guess. You can always build your own if your crafty :)

Beware - Old trunks are built like tanks, and are just as heavy. We have a couple of these but have to keep them locked because (our boys are 4, 2 and 1) those lids would VERY easily take one or all fingers off in a second. They are pretty cool looking....so if you do get an old trunk / chest, I highly recommend that you have the hinges swapped out for the kind that keep the lid open by themselves and require deliberate force to close.

If you want real treasure, go to the "wash" and find the Crown jewels.

I found a pretty neat one at Save-On-Foods yestermonth. Quite small mind you, but they had larger ones. About $20 for a 1x1x2 chest.

My suggestion has a lot of cool upsides.

I think you should find one in the carribean in the water.

    You get:

    A great vacation.
    Cool time with family.
    Possible loot and treasure.
    The chest is free.

    Downsides:
    Cost.
    Possible pirate curse.
    Rotten wood.

    Overall i say its good.

I second the Antique store.. I've probably got around five different antique trunks that could double as 'treasure chests'.

Why couldn't you add a gas shock to the lid to help with the opening? Just an idea!

try a army/navy surplus store. footlockers or old ordnance crates may work.
