I'm looking for a creative idea for my next vacation. I'm guessing we have a great pool of experience on F-chat? I'd love to hear your ideas, and see your pics. I'm on a reasonable budget... but not renting a private island kind of money :). We can go anytime of year, but we get our largest break from work over Dec/Jan holidays, so I have to plan way in advance because its such a popular time to travel.

If anyone is interested... I got some great photos from our recent Reef and Rainforest cruise trip to Aruba, Bonaire, Bahamas, St. John, Dominica, and Grenada. We had a great time on the Ruby Princess... and they sold a photo scrap-book, so if you click on the link below, you will see about 80 pages of snorkeling, and maybe 50 pages of Rainforest.

And just a tip.... click on the arrow below the cover photo.... this allows you to see two pages at a time and you get the panoramic view. If you just click directly on any picture it blows up the page but you can only see one page at a time.

    Why not go to Switzerland?
My girlfriend went there and talked about how awesome it is.
She came home with exotic car pics too (Elise and 360).

Great castles of Europe tour? Wife/women dig it too. One year i simply rented a car, had GPS and just drove all over the place without a care or ANY plans. Great trip. Many hotels offered 25& to 40% off whatever the first rate they told me when we just showed up. Why plan???

Australia. It's summer there in Dec/Jan. English speaking, great food, good mix of city and country sight-seeing, beaches, etc.

There are so many great places to go in the world. I'm not sure where you have been. But the main ones like Italy, Spain, France, Greece, China, Japan, and the UK are good bets.

I've done all those and now want something more exotic so I'm heading to South America in a few months. Going to fly into Argentina, spend some time there, then go to Brazil and Uruguay and fly back out of Brazil. A 2 week trip. It will be a ton of fun.

Germany/Austria is also good and I'm looking forward to going there one day.

This would be awesome! I love castles, their structure, history, supernatural implications. I would seriously love to photograph the castles of Europe in a fog. The stuff of mystery.

Then rent a car and have fun. Of course go to Germany (and other places) as they offer guided bus tours so you need not drive yourself. Was not really that impressed with Vienna castles. Also, when in Vienna AVOID the Lipizzaner PRACTICE session as it is a total rip off! Only go to the actual performance. Music in Vienna is actually hit n miss, too much tourist BS with lousy performances, so stick with the main venue.

Of course there are tourist traps everywhere in popular locations and some can be fun (like taking the chauffeured Rolls to the Empire State on Valentine's Day for that romantic moment at the top). Same with spring in Paris/Eiffel Tower.

Sometimes 'hokey' or classic romantic is fun imho. And yes, women really dig it too. One day i want to do the catacombs of Paris. Then there is climbing Fuji, the Himalayas, Machupicchu...

Fly into Munich if you like castles. From there you can rent a car and drive the autobahn and go to the nurburgring (a bit far from Munich but drivable) and drive around Germany a little.

Yes, Bavaria is very good for castles especially of the mad King Ludwig variety... though they are 1800s and more show than fortification... same can be said for many castles (chateaus) of the Loure river valley in France. South Eastern Europe has some pretty amazing TRUE castles... ya know the ones not meant for hosting but rather for being rather inhospitable to guests. :)

I did the Galapagos over the Winter using Celebrity, and I can honestly say that it was the best vacation I have ever been on. It is amazing how close you can get to the wildlife, plus the islands themselves are beautiful.
