Do you have an old partial set of spark plug wire covers sitting around? Just one side (4) needed.

My 308 QV has one side of original style Cavis 7mm wires, and one side of aftermarket generic 7mm wires inside a slightly smaller red cover.

Now that I have pulled everything apart, I have found that the newer red covers will not pull over the 8mm Taylor wires that I am installing. Even with judicious application of silicone spray or dishsoap.

Thus does anyone have a partial set of original style red wire covers sitting around?

    Thanks in advance!

    Sevo,
It appears that many of the parts suppliers indicate the same part fits 308 and 328 and Mondial, so I would guess they are the same.

Anyone have an old set they are willing to part with? Willing to pay as appropriate.
    Thanks!

I recently installed a Pertronics unit on my 78 GT/4. The Magnacor wires I used for the installation only come in black. My original wire set was red, so I'm looking for an old set of red covers from a newer 308 to make the Magnacor's look stock again.

Unfortunately Magnacor can longer get the red sleeves from their previous supplier and have no idea when they might find a new supplier. I've done an exhaustive search and haven't found anything that is reasonably similar, hence my request.

I'm willing to pay an appropriate price for a used set.

    Thanks for any info.

The original red silicone sleeving and end caps will not go over 8mm wire though, it has to be 7mm.
    At least on 328.

    Thanks for the reply

You are correct, but in my case the GT/4 wire set from Magnacor uses 7mm wire, so I should be ok.

Thats right, the original silicone sleeving is very thin walled. When I did mine I searched for ages for something identical, including all the electronics suppliers we normally deal with as well as automotive but never any with the same thin wall. I re-used the original in the end.

Yeah, I wish I had sleeves to use. The GT/4 came with red solid wires so no need for sleeves.

If my search is unsuccessful I might try a piece of the tubing from rifledrivers post, just to see what it looks like.

    Thanks

There are a great variety of shrink tubing available as well if you search for it.

Actually I already tried the shrink tube route. I have a friend in the business and he got me multiple sample to try. The problem is all the shrink tube has a dull finish and once on, it really doesn't look like the stock sleeves. The red look more like rust color when shrunk.
On a positive note I found a company in the UK that has a thin wall (1mm) silicone vacuum hose in 8mm ID and they sell by the meter. My problem is they don't ship to the US. Going to see I what I can do to get some here.
If it works out I'll post the results

    Ciao

I could order some for you and send, but I think its very unlikely vacuum hose would be suitable. It would be too rigid. Vacuum hose is specifically designed to be rigid to avoid it collapsing inwards. The original is a very flexible silicone hose which has a wall of around 0.5mm

I mis-spoke on the vacuum hose. I'm a bit cross-eyed from looking at websites. It's actually silicon sleeve from a company called Silex LTD

This is their description: Coloured Silicone Sleeving 60° shore Inner Diameter 8.0 Wall Thickness 1.0 OuterDiameter 10.0 Colour Red.

This UK company list a 7.5mm ID with 0.5mm wall which sounds perfect: Silicone Tubing / Sleeving | Hilltop

They sell it in 50M reels only. I think any supplier of this specialist sleeve is going to have a large min order quantity. I can see if they can send a sample if anyone is interested in a group buy.
