My insurance company finally came around to my way of thinking and finally cut the check. But unfortunately, so much time has slipped by that my shop is swamped with Pebble Beach work and won't get to my car until September. My accident happened at Thanksgiving '06! My shop said not to expect her before the end of the year. :(

Just as well as my house remodel has missed it's deadline by a year (!!!) and I have no garage space. But at least she'll be coming home. I do have a question though. My AC has never worked and my shop asked if I wanted to get it working. How effective is the AC system? In all the years that I've owned her, I've never had the want or need to use the AC. I'm leaning toward leaving the system out but keeping all the parts in a box for the future. What do you guys think?

    Thanks,

    Manny

Synchro's got contacts for special bolt-in York (the original mfr but rebaged in Italy) compressors that are apparently move 40% more cfm. I'll try and see if I can get him to post on this thread.

An auction on Ebay went by with no bids that had the inner panels that you will need. Price wasn't too bad. Panels aren't difficult to make but it is time consuming. Then ebay number is 330108805245 if you want to take a look.

The A/C helps. It does spit out cold air, just not a whole hell of a lot.

I have a couple items you'll need to make it work right, No Charge to good Dinophiles like yourself.

The gaskets for the compressor connections are NLA. I had some made, quite a few actually, and I'll send two to you. PM me an address.

I also have a used turn signal assembly if you'd like it, including two new lenses, so both sides will match. That, unfortunately, is not free. But I'll toss the housing in (It may need some wiring work) with the purchase of two lenses at my cost from Verell, which was $150.00 plus freight.

Let me know if you're interested.

And congrats on finally getting settled up with the insurance guys. I hope she turns out like new!

    Congratulations on the positive future.

Several friends from my Maserati group have had the same cooling difficulty (and failure) with the old, York A/C compressor and they turned me onto a superior replacement. They rave about their A/C cooling now. The York company was bought out by TCCI and their modern unit that has the same form, fit and function but has increased the volumetric capacity from 6 cu to 10 cu. It also has modern seals, a universal mount and provides a serious increase in coolling ability. As an affirmation, when I showed the unit to the local A/C specialist, he commented that it was a very high quality A/C compressor.

I don't believe these units are unique to the Dino. Here is an article that I wrote in the vintage section including purchasing source and part numbers:
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136100907&postcount=8

My friend Kerry spent over $500 on the rebuild of his old Aspira Friga unit, while my replacement was $306. Seven mounting bolts, two hose connections, and a belt tightening are all it took. I'm also going to swap the A/C compressor in the Dino in the future, when time permits.

Please note that it appears all the old A/C compressors must have been influenced by the American market. When I changed mine in the Maserati Bora, last week I found I needed to use 3/8" sockets (not 10mm) to remove/replace the SAE (not Metric) fasteners for the old, Aspira Frigo unit.

    racerboy9,

Thanks for the info. I'll check with my shop to see if that's going to be cheaper than what they were thinking.

    Dave,

Thanks for the offers. My shop already has a new set of Euro marker lights. Lens and housing for both sides. As for the AC, Scott's upgrade sounds very cool (no pun intended).

    Mark (dinogts) & Scott (synchro),

Thanks for the info on the AC. I'll speak with my shop about this upgraded. I'm excited about the AC. As I've mentioned, I haven't had need of it before, but if this "climate change" keeps going the way it's going, AC will be a nice thing to have.

    Thanks all.

The TCCI units come with new teflon seals/gaskets at the ports, if I understand the application correctly.

Can you detail the upgrade information here?

    Parts, sources, etc?

I think it would be VERY valuable information for all of us who sweat out the summer in our Dinos.

    Manny,
Never have regretted taking AC out. Access is now great. Engine cooling is MUCH better without condenser in front of radiator. All the pieces are in my basement so my heirs can call all parts complete if they ever sell the car.

Only requirement is to fix the wind wing latches so the wind wings can be used as Mother Nature and Pinin Farina intended. I spend a lot of time in the SoCal mountains, high deserts and the road to Las Vegas via Pearblossom Highway. Survivable any time of year. Heater is far more useful than the pitiful airconditioning that can not do anything useful if you crack a window to get some ventilation. AC only recirculates stale air.

Horrible pictures but glad that there is some light. Good luck.

    Sure,

The upgrade is replacing the old A/C compressor with a modern unit that has a 40% higher capacity. The outside form, fit and connections are the same.

Until I do it on my Dino, this will be the general plan of attack I used on the Maserati Bora:

    1) Have a shop recover the freon in the system prior to starting
    2) Disconnect the two hoses from the A/C compressor; High & low pressure
    3) Remove the A/C compressor mounting bolts
    4) Removethe old A/C compressor from car
    5) Buy new A/C compressor from these sources:
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136100907&postcount=8
(Note: need to determine if the Dino's is RHS or LHS suction)
    6) Replace in reverse order and fill with R-12
