I am looking into getting a mid 60s Ferrari but am unsure of the eras offerings. Honestly, the only one I remember seeing is in Gone in 60 Seconds and that car was sexy. Any suggestions?
No prob, people do it all the time. As for the thread, the question is, how much do you want to spend? Many offerings of this era, ranging from 35k to 8 million plus...
I recall from that movie that he was asking about renting a 275 GTB ... and I also recall they drove a 275 GTB into a container ... $$$ Big money $$$ The cheapest 60's Ferrari would be a 2+2, like the 250 GT 2+2 or 330 America, otherwise dig deep into those pockets Pete
Sure. 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California. It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.
Gentry: Try this link ... you may have to scroll down to "Models" http://www.carsfromitaly.com/ferrari/index.html You'd be looking through 250, 330, 275 sections for the 1960's Best wishes
8 million is a tad out of my price range. I was thinking no more than 80k. Thanks for the link, Ill take a gander.
OK guys, any ideas on this one? 275GTB. Price ranges? I also found this on eBay for 200k. Worth it? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2485956004&category=6212
240k? hrmmm. What can I get for closer to 100? and for the jackasses in the other threads who still have nothing better to do than flame me, I fit quite well in a 360.
360 is one of the most roomy Ferrari's ever made. Anything before 95, the cars were all just about tiny and hard for large people to get into. For 100k you have a number of 2+2 options.
Don't know but what about these threads? http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26969&page=2&pp=30 http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27106&page=1&pp=30
Yes, they are both threads that go to show that money and maturity dont necessarily go hand and hand. All of this could have been avoided if someone had opted for the truth rather than making up his own version of it. I was unaware Michael Moore was a member here. =)
I was actually suprised that I fit so well in the 360 but the 550 I couldnt get in because I was too tall. Granted Im sure Id lose a bit of seated height when I get done losing this weight, but my head was a good 5 inches above the roof while trying to get in. Would you recommend just going with a newer model, perhaps a used 360? 240k is way more than I want (or even can) spend on a toy. I do alright, but I dont make enough to toss away that much money.
Personally? NO. But thats why I frequent the classics forum. For the same price as a new 360, you can get a F512M. To me the choice is clear. For you, honestly, I say look at 360/550 or 456. The best value is 456 right now. Roomy comfy, front engine V12.
I flamed your picture in jest earlier, then provided you with a link to identify the models that you might be interested in and then you insult the poor Jackass by comparing that noble animal to me! The models that are in good to excellent condition at or around 100K would be the: 250 PF Notchback Coupe ($80K to $110K) [the later in the model, the better for driving ... early ones can be a ***** to find parts for at times.] Nice driving car (note: I owned a 58/59 PF Notchback Coupe in the 70's and can tell you that it was a very good driving automobile, and the later cars only improved on that model.) Things to consider when contemplating buying this model: Look for the later 128 E or 128 F engine (outside plug) rather than the 128 D engine (inside plug) as there were a number of 128 F engines (very few of the transitional 128 E engines) manufactured and there seems to be a better parts stream. Look for disk brakes as the older style drums can be a bit-of-a-pill when cold. About 323 of this model manufactured over several years. 250 2+2 GTE which is sort-of-an updated version of the above car with a better back seat. The engine was moved forward a bit to provide more room in the rear seat area. These cars are pretty generic one to the other not a great deal of change outside of some details on the body and a few mechanical updates. Prices range from somewhere around $40K and $75K (Look for full details of the restoration of those around $75 or try to find the 2 pounds of gold hidden in the trunk ... actual trading prices for this model seem to be stuck around $40k to $55K for good to excellent models that haven't undergone a major renovation.) Good driver, many came from the factory with radio and heater that works ... about 950 produced. 330 2+2 which is an updated version of the GTE and is a bit of a better driver than the 250 2+2, but I can't really tell you why. The steering is a tad lighter which makes it a better driver around town. However, for those of us that are accustomed to power assisted steering, all of these cars feel a bit antiquated. There were two basic models: A quad light and a two light model. The two light model commands a higher price than the quad light as most viewers find it better looking. The pricing is about that of the 250 GTE with the quad light starting at about $35K for a good one to about $50 - $60K for the two light model. Some may have air conditioning. All of these vehicles are very reliable as Ferrari goes, however; the service intervals are closer together than the newer models. The current FORZA Magazine has an article on some of the more recent 2+2 cars and some evaluation of the models ... Borders, and Books-A-Million sell it around here. Best wishes.
Is the 456 have the same roomy feature that the 360 has? It is a 2+2 so Im assuming it has a bit more room anyway. Thanks for the input.
Pal, you're all over the place: Audi A8L, E-Class AMG, CL65, Jaguars XJR and S-Type R, VW Phaeton, Range Rover, 275GTB, 250GTO replica, 550 Maranello and now the 360 Modena. I would recommend you make a decision as to what the car will be used for and how often as well as how many passengers you would like to be able transport. Once you've narrowed it down a bit, we will definitely offer our recommendations. At least with this thread you've finally posted something Ferrari-related. Since you've joined F-Chat you've done nothing but chime in on various off-topic discussions, let us all know that you were car shopping, and make several enemies with your private messages. With 120+ posts under your belt, this is actually the very first Ferrari-related discussion you've had on this board!
lol, No worries. I thought some of them were actually funny. I contemplated posting a few myself, but opted not to. thanks. another question. do these vintage models need climate or moisture controlled storage? Houston is VERY humid.
The first cars have nothing to do with the Ferraris Im looking at. I was car shopping for a new sedan, have picked one and ordered it. Volkswagen Phaeton. The enemies that were made are their choices, not mine. If someone expresses interest, I will contact them, simple as that. UroTrash, the instigator of most of this mess, didn't even bother to get his facts straight before he proceeded to slam me. I enjoyed the off topic discussions, which is why I chimed in. This was the first Ferrari related question I had, which is why it was posted now. =)
