this is probably not the right place to post this... but
I have been searching all over the place to find a decent deal on a well taken care of 355 spider, and have now turned to you guys. I am pretty set on what I am looking for and this is the only combo I am considering. Rosso Corsa / tan, 6 speed. 96-99, 355 spider.
I have searched everywhere - cars.com, ferrarina.com, Dupont, autotrader, erbay, ferrariads, collectorcartrader, dealer websites, ferrari market letter, etc...
If anyone is planning on selling their car in the next 3 months, please let me know. I am ready to buy anytime after middle of November!

    THanks!

    Gordon

    Gordon,

Not to "beat a dead horse" but I've been following your various threads and can't believe you feel comfortable in a 355. I have a 355 spider 6-speed and my 6'2" friends and over HATE it- driving it or being a passenger, and they are not fat or muscular like you. And then there's foot size- if I don't wear the "right" shoes, I end up hitting gas and brake at same time if I'm not careful, and I'm only size 9 1/2.

Not trying to talk you out of it- I LOVE my car (tubis rule on it!) but don't want you to take a hit when you decide to sell it in a few months...

But I'll keep an eye out for you...

    Eric

P.S.- maybe a TR would be a little better for you- or try to buy one of Kobe or Shaq's modified f-cars :)

As long as I'm following your search, Gordon, here's what I would question dealer on:

    - If belts were done 2 years ago, that might mean 2 years and 8 months ago... I believe the current philosophy is they must be done every 3 years for the "service books" to be right, which will be about $5,500.

    - Has it been driven much since service (service receipts showing mileage changes since belt change). Sitting 2 years can be hard on belts.

    - Have valve guide and manifold issues been addressed?

    - Tubis/stereo?

    - Tires? original are probably hard even if not too much wear. If worn, could indicate worn clutch too

    - top works flawlessly?

    - If car has been in IL always, they use salt in winter there- just another little thing to watch for.

No matter what, I think it's a little overpriced, but could be up to 10K overpriced (depending on if you will put tubis on it, needs tires, etc, etc).

Keep us posted on what comes of this Gordon!

It's not my personal GTS, it's a customers GTS I am listing for him and helping sell. The interest has been okay, I get about 1-2 calls a week, nothing serious though. I know the F355 market is slowing down but this car is too clean to sell for less than $70k.

Hopefully I'll have my own F355 soon, just need that darn Maserati to sell!

    Thanks guys for the response.
I actually called about the one at Continental today. Seems overpriced, but we are planning on going to Chicago in 2 weeks to do some early holiday shopping and I will take a look at that car when I am there.

Eric, well I was surprised too that I fit in the car somewhat comfortably... First off, this car will never be driven on long road trips, that is what the Benz is for! I will use it to cruise around time, going out to dinner, etc... 90% of the time I plan on driving it will be with the top down - that is why I am buying a spider. I test drove a 355 over the weekend and yeah, legroom is not the greatest, it works. Hey whoever said that 2 seater sports cars are supposed to have tons of room in them, right (well except the 360 maybe)... I have a size.....13 shoe, and yes you have to wear the right shoes. I plan on wearing my narrow soled puma shoes when driving, so that will be fine... hopefully... by the way if your friends are not "fat or muscular like me", then what are they? tall and skinny? lol

Gordon- sounds like you have the right driving plans- I just was hoping you really are comfortable- my 2 "big" friends are athletes- kickboxer and bodybuilder, so they don't have "big ass" but lats and thighs don't fit good in seats. Maybe they don't like my car cause they have to drive the kids in the SUVs all the time..

But I did work for a guy that must have been 5'10" and a good 350lbs with 48" waist, and he drove a 512 TR, so I know "big and fat" can fit those :)

Keep looking - you'll find the right 355 spider I'm sure. At least you can look at the one in IL in person w/o too much hassle.

Have fun and enjoy the search...

    Eric

I have noticed that the 355 is in short inventories as of late. People are hanging on to them I guess for the value- fun factor per $$$$. The 360s and now the 430s are major money!!!! My dealer is selling 430s with options running into the $245,000 area!!!!!! The 95k to 100k 355 spider properly sorted sounds like a deal if you can find that car. I saw a blip like this with the 348 when everthing 355-360 was still up there price wise. I took a spin in my buddys 430 last week as the driver and can say the car is off the charts good!!!!! This car is msrp plus options 130k north of a 355b. My point is not everybody is in need of the new fcar incarnation with all the bells...So now we are seeing people hanging on to the 355 because of bang for the buck! Good luck with the search......

I have the car you are looking for just had 30,000 mile service and belts at Ferrari of atlanta 2 weeks ago.
I am wanting a 430 spider but they will not even let me get on list unless I buy another car so looking at upgrading to 360 spider just to get on list. Not in a hurry to sell but everything is for sale if price is right. Is is this hard to get a 430 everywhere or should I shop somewhere else?
    [email protected]

ferrari of atlanta also has one on the showroom floor

If your looking for a perfect car, here is a photo of my late production 1998 355 Spider 6 speed. Paint is absolutely flawless with no dings, scratches etc. Interior is as new with no seat wear(they have been covered since new and never sat on directly). Perfect console. Even the interior metal door sills are perfect (most are scratched or dented) with not one blemish. All books, manuals are present as are the original cover in its carry bag with two seat covers & steering wheel cover. Extra Ferrari car cover so original has never been used and is still in bag untouched. Tool kit is unused in its original delivery plastic. Has original factory radio and cd changer so interior & trunk have not been altered or cut into. Has Tubi, Challenge grill, red brake calipers and hard wired trickle charger. Major service completed 800 miles ago. Car currently has 9k miles and is driven once every two weeks to keep it in optimum shape and always kept under 4k RPM until completely warmed up. Adult owned, pampered and never raced or abused in any way. High assembly number avoids the valve guide issue. Stored in heated garaged, covered and never left sitting in the sun for any length of time. An as new example which will satisfy the most perfection oriented buyer. Offered at $105K
