I'm on the market to purchase a 348 with around the 25K miles on it. It mint condition. My 2 questions are what is a fair price to pay for one with both belts done or not and what should I pay attention to when I go see it. Thanks
35-40k without belts, +5k with. Assumes tb/ts. Spiders are a bit more. GTB/GTS a bit more. Serie Speciale a bit more than that. A 25k mile Serie speciale in mint shape probably a 55k car.
looking at a 91 348 TB with about 25 k miles Looks pretty good. Has some paint cracking at rear pillars.....very slight hardly notice but have to look very close. Paint looks very original drivers seat bolster very slight scuffing, belts never done but starts up really nice and engine sounds really good. Some noise until warms up.....not valves ....sounds like possible air valve sticking and then goes away when fully warmed up,....not sure what it is. Looks really clean...new tires...no leaks..what else should i look for. Oh, defrost vents....looks like rubber or whatever is on it cracking and also door handles which is normal.....rubber looks funny but that's it....overall great shape.
If it's never had a major, it needs one asap. I'd be a bit worried that the car hasn't been kept up with tbh. Maybe 30-35k given the unknowns there. Get a ppi and go from there if you're interested in the car.
I did know where there was a mint 92 red and black Ts with full service and 29k miles they where asking 44
I own a '95 Spider red/tan <25k miles full engine out service less than 500 miles ago. Beautiful car, not particularly looking to sell but it wouldn't be under $50k. Rolling art piece. It would cost over 50 to buy a mid level Audi and there is no comparison. Officially a classic this year and they are appreciating in value.
The "air valve noise" you hear when started cold could be the air injection system which does operate when the vehicle is cold and then shuts down when normal operating temperature is reached.
Also just to clarify on your original question, if you're talking timing belts, the 348 only has one.
Yes it disappears after warmup. Car is in really good shape has 38 k kms Is a Canadian car. Brand new tires. No dents or scratches and appears to be original paint. The rear roof pillars where it meets the quarters have slight cracking of the paint and that's all The dash vents and door handles have that sticky issue but the others have been taken care of Only problem in leather is the drivers seat bolster has a little scuffng. He said he's had it service but no major. Engine compartment looks good What you guys think is fair price. I don't want to lose this one as it's really nice and don't want to lose for belts. Engine starts right up with mo visible smoke. How about issues I might face or required repairs possibly I'm near future.
I would think you are going to spend 7500 easy on a major (I would) Belts, hoses, plug wires, water pump, ect. Do that first. So Mid 30's. Andy
He won't take anything less than 45 canadian dollars for her. which is about just under 38 k american. So do you think in the right range?
With the way the CDA $ is falling, it's a moving target. I do feel a CDA 348 carries a premium over a US car, but I am biased. You will find surprises as you start to drive your new 348: 25,000 miles is maybe a 100 miles/month average. you'll be doing a lot more than that in your first year of ownership, and odds are something will break: it's a 20 year old car, and stuff happens. I'd prefer to have my own mechanic do the belt service, as opposed to a 'resale' belt change being done for you. These cars always look shiny on the outside, I'd definitely recommend a competent specialist take a look at the innards before buying. A lot of these cars have been bent, and repaired privately without insurance company involvement. Surprises can be $20k; take the time to buy a good one! The hunt can be a lot of fun, although sometimes frustrating! 348tb's have to be one of the sport car bargains
Went to check out car again and took a closer look. You can see way better in nice shop with floresent lights. The interior looks good except the drivers seat has some wear on bolster and seat bottom mostly near side when you get in. All else looks good. There are stone chips on hood and front bumper which have been touched up and under front has very slight scrapes on leading edge....nothing really bad. The stress cracks in paint at the quarters where it meets the roof pillar near the rear section on left is slight and the right is also slight but then appears at the it glides along the front for about 4 inches or maybe less. Not noticable in certain lighting and you have to look very close to see. Didn't see any signs of collision and carcheck showed only yearly registration and milage seems in order..Remember this a 24 year car with 38 k KMs or about 23,500 miles. noticed that there was a leak at inspection cover, oil and coolant, not much but after removing inspection cover found water pump and front crank seal . Ouch Left shock is leaking and handbrake requires adjustment and wipers needs replacing. Owner to take care of shock and brake and wipers for certification. engine out service will be split between us so it brings me to 48 K Canadian but I'll have engine out service, timing belts water pump seals , top set, plugs 4 wheel alignment. What do you think.....
