Hello, I am looking to buy a 355 Spider. I am looking for a black 6 speed. Must be pristine and show condition if at all possible. This car will not be driven but babied and loved and only allowed out under the most strict conditions. I want to stare at it... most of the time, with a glass of Amarone. I am in Vancouver BC but I am willing to ship from anywhere in the US for the right car. Hope to hear from you other Ferrari enthusiasts. Thanks, Ohcanada
I know, now that I have committed myself to this long awaited adventure I am having trouble doing anything but sitting here on my MAC and checking out anything and everything 355. There is one in Naples FL that looks nice, I am considering it but would prefer to buy form someone on the BB that I can get some credible history on.
Here's one on Ebay the interior looks like it needs some help but the asking price isn't that bad. Maybe he might be willing to deal. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-Ferrari-F355-Spider-6-Speed-Tubi-20k-Triple-Black-/300499416078?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item45f729340e
Check out Ferrari Ads for the '95 Nero Spyder being sold by AronAz. I see the car every month at our local Cars & Coffee and it's in great shape. I'd rather see him keep it but........
Checked em both out already, Windycity def looks good but the interior is too rough. Arizona car looks interesting but wasnt sure of the quality. You have seen it? is it in excellent condition? Any dash shrinkage? Stickies? Dont mean to be picky but I really want the best I can find....
If the car at Windycity only has interior issues and you can get it at the right price Robbie at Stickynomore does better work then the Factory. As far as dash shrinkage that's because Ferrari didn't use enough leather to wrap the dash, but you can find (there are many here) that can repair the dash with a fit and finish just as good if not better then Ferrari. My suggestion to you is, if you can go check the car out and if it's just the interior, then get some estimates on how much to make it perfect. Then go back to Windycity and see if you can make a deal. This time of year and with a poor car market he would be foolish not to deal. Good Luck.
The airbag cover and gauge surround is pulling a bit but for his asking price you could easily budget some money for recovering those pieces.
Thanks. That has crossed my mind. Anyone on here have an idea of how much it would cost to refinish? I think it I could probably work down the price as he has already mentioned it (its currently listed at $56,000) or to buy the one in Naples FL for $71,000? The one in Naples looks extremely clean. here is the link: http://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/Search/DRauSearchAdditionalPhotos.aspx?itemid=889684
Looks like a nice car in FL and it only has 11k on the odometer. My mechanic says sometimes you have to worry about a car not being use much. Don't get me wrong this car looks nicer then the one at Windycity but a 21k difference as you say is big. A lot can be done to that car for 21k. See what the Service records (a must) on both and take it from there.
I have been quoted $1000 to re-cover the dash in leather, and $500 to re-cover the smaller instrument hood (the cover over the speedo and tach.) This does not include the labor to remove and re-install the dash and hood.
You will find some of the nicest 355s north of the border. Almost every car brought up here from the usa ends up for one reason or another a dog and will cost you more to get to what you thought it would be. Add the taxes and duties ect and you will be paying more than you think.
Hi Gerry, Cant find anything up here other than 2 cars (red) in Quebec and I'll be damned before I buy a car from that province that is buried in ice and snow and SALT! I don't know I have a couple of buddies that have bought out of the US and saved some dough and love their cars. That said if you know of anything please feel free to let me know.
check out Daytona auto in Toronto. They have cars coming and going all the time. They have a black 355 spider there right now but it has an F1 shifter. Their service is second to none.
If you're not gonna drive it, then give me half of what you're prepared to spend and I'll let you in my garage anytime you like. For $10,000 I will sell you an original brochure with folding "poster". Please don't buy this car and turn it into a garage queen.
+1. It is sad when a car with such a racing heritage just sits in the garage. Trust me, when you let these cars sit is when things start to go wrong with them. They MUST be driven. I purchased my 1995 355 Spider 3 years ago with only 10,500 miles. 3 years later I have 36,500 miles. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm gonna have to pass on that very generous deal Sandy. I want my own. Don't get me wrong this car will be driven, just only when it is sunny out and for pleasure. This is not the car I am going to drive to the office...well maybe on some days That said I'm still going to stare at it allot as well and what should I drink but excellent Italian red wine while doing it?
Take Gerry's advice and you will be a happy camper, and the 355 in Ont/Que are not driven in the snow salt come on..... Guys in the States are only giving away crappy cars the nice one you will have to step up too the plate. Why don't you call your local Fcar service guys and ask then about those great deal and what it takes to make them run right.
Yes I am being a little cheeky but hey if you look at the car he pointed out in Ontario they want $88k for it, you do the math. I am not looking for a bargain Ferrari and I am willing to pay for the right one. Even the top 355's I have looked at that are super clean are at least a $5k savings after tax and duty and other related items than this car. (based on list even) Not to mention it is the wrong colour and an F1. Besides I would still consider buying across Canada no different than buying from California. Now if I could find one in my own back yard! That would be worth something to me.
Good luck, with time you will find the right car for you, just make sure you go look at a bunch of cars before you pull the trigger.... And buying in your backyard for a 355 will save you time and money in traveling ....... And $5k in savings when buying the wrong 355 can disappear very fast.
Red and Gerry, Def taking your advice seriously. I am not foolish to think I can find what I want for $49000. To be perfectly honest I am sure to get what I really want I will net out regardless of where I buy, US or Canada. It really isn't about saving the money to buy in the US but about finding the right car as you suggested.
