I am considering buying a used 430 challenge, preferably with low usage and in good shape
How can I determine if car is in good shape? For example the engine life is measured in hours ran or mileage? If it is hours what would be acceptable?
Any guidance and advice is welcome.
Also what is a cost to redo engine, brakes, clutch, etc.

Probably better off just getting a 458 Challenge if you have to 'redo" the engine/brakes/clutch/etc :)

Yes, if you want to spend 3 times the amount of a F430! Its a race car you will always have to redo the brakes / Engine / Clutch.... and even the body panels (fenders/quarter panels)

As far as the Original posters question:

Engine life is not measured by hours it is measured in KM for Challenge Cars.

And you normally go by Percents for Brake / Clutch

100% means you cannot run in the challenge (even though it is still functioning)
0% means it is a new part and just registered

You should always ask if a vehicle was re-tubed. There is nothing wrong with a car that has been re-tubed properly. This is when all the moving components are taken off the Car and you get a brand new shell from Ferrari, then all the Moving parts; Drive-train, and all moving components are installed onto the new Shell. Essentially the car was in a wreck and it could not be repaired so they replace the whole car. (Just make sure all the paperwork is there and the vehicle is inspected)

Always ask for a compression test.

always ask what will come with the Vehicle.

When looking for a good challenge car make sure it was maintained by a Professional shop, that keeps track of all the records.

Price ranges for F430's are normally in the range of 160- 180 but sometimes you can find a really good deal. ;-)

Hope to hear from you soon.

You are asking alot of great questions as a prospective buyer. Here is the best advice we can offer:

430C engine usage is measured in KM...but that number is only somewhat useful because it is stored in the vehicle's TCU (transmission control unit)..which would not reflect an engine/trans change, refreshening etc. We have seen many 12,000 km+ cars with fresh rebuilds...however the car still shows 12K kilometers!

The only way we measure engine life is most importantly a leak down test, then a compression test. Any good shop could perform these tests. Leak down is the best indicator. A leak down showing 0-5% is like new, 5-15% is good, 15-25% is ok, 25%+ is likely needing a freshening (rings, bearings, valve job)

Clutch life can only be read with SD3 tester...very simple

Replacing carbon ceramic brakes is costly....close to 18K for all 4 wheels...not worth a dime of it. We offer steel brake conversion kits for $6,500 and the performance is comparable.

We currently have (2) 430 challenges for sale. Both are in the 150K-155K range. Please give us a call if you need any other advice.

Current prices for a 430C seem to be running apron. 150K. You can pick up a nice 360C for 80K. A 458C 290K. Just a thought........ A lot of guys are turning in their 430C's because they will soon be getting the 458C replacement Wait a year there will be a lot more to choose from and the prices will drop accordingly. Saw a nice 430C the other day that has 400K into it. Absolutely perfect. Just found a buyer for 220K. An absolute steal. Why? The seller is getting his 458C replacement next week. A little patience will go a long way.

I may consider selling my 430 Challenge to buy a 458 Challenge. I had no intention of selling so rebuilt engine (5 hours on engine dynoed 520 hp), new clutch, new headers (oem), new radiators, tranny inspected. Car has never been in severe accident. Always proffesionally maintained by Ferrari Challenge Team garage.

Car has removable GT kit (rear grand am spec wing & front splitter) and original front bumper. Two sets of wheels and tires.

    PM me if interested

It's not easy to buy a 458 Challenge if you haven't run a 430 Challenge. Ferrari likes the used first, new second concept. I tried. And unless I was committed to at least 3, 458 Challenge races at $25-$35k per pop, I wasn't getting a 458 Challenge.
