I really like These replica Lancia and Ford GT40 cars. Anybody on here know someone I could talk to on what EXACTLY is involved with importing a car like this? My friend and I have recently sold several of our cars overseas, it was easy and painless. Importing one is something I know nothing about. Georgia has some weird new "Assembled vehicle" laws now also with regards to "kit cars". These Stratos replicas are super cool !
i'm actually importing a car right now from germany..it takes a while, should arrive next week, hopefully..so far it's been ok..we'll see how customs goes!

I'm in Georgia myself. I imported my kit in 2002. It came into Charleston S.C and I picked it up my self. I had to work through a broker to have the import duties paid as duty paid release documents had to be presented to the shipper. The duties were based on the value of the parts. It came to around $400. I didn't know this and had to spend overnight there to get things straightened out. If I'd do it again, I'd have the broker in advance and have the taxes paid before I drove. The "kit" was not imorted as a car, it was imported as a "pile of parts". so ther was no problem with importing a vehicle. I had my own trailer and just drove it back to Atlanta myself. Alternatively a trucking company can be hired to pick up from the shipper once it gets to port and unloaded to their local warehouse. My kit is under construction and I'm still formulating a plan to get it street legal, or just keep it a s atrack day car. It's not built on anyother car. It is a complete chassis / body that is near identical to the original. The suspension is suposedly the same geometery as the original and can interchange with the same parts as the original. Likewise the body panels. Hawk supplies replacement panels for shunted originals. The chassis can be pre- bracketed to accept many different engine/transaxle configurations. a 'french from france'? as in a person? well, so far it's been fairly painless...i think the hard part is dealing with US customs, registering the car with the DMV, etc etc...it cost me about 4.5k to get the car from hamburg to NY in a single crate-if you share a container with other cars it's much cheaper, but then you have to wait for other cars to go at the same time...once it reaches the states (next week) i'll have to pay duty on the car, and then i think taxes once i register it at the DMV

very cool project... looks like you got the early gr4 blended in rear flares? how much does the v8 weigh over the dino based drivetrain? i shipped out a complete 308 unit and was astonished on how heavy a 3liter can be. im guessing its nearly 100lbs heavier than the larger displacement 355 unit nice looking scorp...i had a couple juiced up scorps too
The car you're looking at has been on sale for over 6 years. I would start asking myself questions on this fact alone. It didn't sell at auction in Monaco in 2006 and had a high bid of 90K. I also think it may have had a front crash you need to carefully check geometry. Used to be light blue, has several non original parts and is missing others which are particularly hard to find. If you intend to go through a full restoration go for it if the price is adequate. I think there's another one for sale in the US dark blue, white stripes that might be worth looking at. I'm pretty sure the Stratos was never street legal in the US don't know if that has changed for "vintage" cars. What do you intend to do with it?
