I've decided to take the plunge after admiring these cars for years. I'm a cash buyer looking to purchase a nice 308GTS with a good history. I'm open to any year and reasonable mileage as long as it has a good service history and can stand up to a PPI. I'm in Tampa, if you know of any cars looking for a good home drop me a line, thanks in advance.

Welcome to the first stage of madness! Things I have observed:

+ Everyone assumes you have to be a millionaire to own a Ferrari.
A reliable, presentable 308 is far less costly than many SUVs. Okay,
they haul less but what they do haul is done in class!

+ Ferraris do NOT attract women - they attract teenage boys. Certainly
not my game. (Then again, other women aren't either. Married 27
years and it is all I can do to keep one woman disappointed!)

+ 99% of the world's population lacks the imagination to think they
can own one. You're already in the top 1% of the class!

+ That same 99% think that the cars cost a fortune to maintain.
Remember, maintenance is not the same as repairs. Maintenance
is what you do to minimize repairs. Are they expensive to maintain
and repair? Perhaps. Bought a tail light for a Honda recently?
That's insane! Costly, possibly, but not as much as the depreciation
found in about any other car! My 308 has done much better than
    my 401k.

+ Congratulations! You have passed all of the above tests! Now
buy the best car you can afford!

Next to a glass car, it's the 77 GTBs are the coolest US 308s.
I considered it myself until I realized I wasn't man enough for carbs. :)

I think there's a beauty at Algar Ferrari in Philly. I also was notified yesterday of a nice red '85 that may be coming up for sale privately in LA.

Don't get too local in your search. There aren't exactly hundreds of great 308s around anymore.

I've been checking out cars as i travel the country for work. They all look so good in pictures and not so good in person.

Hard to limit your search to a few states. I like you live in FL and am looking for a car as well.

There is a 308 on ebay (I know, I know) right now in Florida at a dealership on the East Coast. I don't know anything about it just saw it the other day. FYI. Might be worth a call or a drive over.

I too live in Florida and have live in California, Missouri and Virginia. It dosen't matter where you live the outstanding classic you have fallen in love with is on the other end of the country. My suggestion is to keep those frequent flyer miles ready to trade in for the trip.

Mine came from E-bay, I bought it off line, it has been everything I thought it would be. The dealership has a questionable reputation too, but the car was a good deal for the right price.

#1. As with any purchase, do your homework, check out the car or have it done for you as you would any car, boat or plane.

#2. Before you buy your dream Ferrari, check with the guys here, they may know the car or dealer, could save you a lot of time and maybe money.

#3. Don't settle for something close to what you want, the right car in the right color combonation is out there, you don't want to kick yourself everytime you see your real dream car drive by.

#4. Once you buy your car, Listen to the guys here, I doubt there is anything this forum hasn't run across or diagnosed on these cars. They will also help with proper maintence and maybe help find a good local mechanic

Good luck and have a lot of fun with it, I do
