Does anyone know if ferrari outsources their steering wheels and seats? By that, I mean do they produce them in house, or do that have a company like MOMO or Sparco produce them?

My understanding is that over 70% of the cars are made in-house. Where and what parts are obtained from other sources is not known by me. Marelli, Bosch, various tire sources, and metals are obvious non-in-house made parts.

I think it depends which seats. Stock seats on 360/430 may well be Lear, I'm not sure on this one.

Sports Seats on 360/430 are Sparco but not available other than through Ferrari - although very similar ones are.

Seats on the 599 are made by Recaro, and the ex factory price for daytona trim ($3,035) and full electric ($3,710) is eye-watering.

I'd have thought that steering wheels are now in-sourced since so many are CF, but I can't say for sure.

The aluminum they make the engine blocks of is manufactured on-site too?

Well I think they have ingots cast to their specs which they melt and pour into molds. But they do their own casting.

Speaking of casting, I hear they have an enormous room filled with just about every casting they have ever made. 250 V12 heads and blocks anyone?

Alcoa makes the aluminum, brudda ....here in Texas as a matter of fact, that's why the 599Tour cars came thru here.....

No they do NOT have the older engine blocks, the Classiche Department manger recently stated many will have to be remade, citing IIRC the Daytona application as an example....

MOMO is no longer the steering wheel vendor ....Gianpirro Moretti sold the company and retired after winning Daytona in his 333SP.....

I have not kept up with the seats but as another has posted there's a braod array of options on them now....

Original Poster may calrify what the heck he's asking about on this end run of the FNA Parts Supply Network.......

During Enzo's life, there was a room full of components that had failed in racing applications, maintained more or less for the engineers to ponder....maybe that's what you are remembering.....

I just heard of a room filled with castings. Why on earth would they destroy their old engine castings I wonder.

    You man the casting 'molds'??

Think about it, with all the engine types over the years they'd take up a huge warehouse!

Plus for so many years they really were on a shoestring, selling last year's Factory cars to make the new ones, cannabalizing old cars..

There are some F1 cars of which NO examples remain...('61 Shark Nosed Phil Hill car, for example)

When Enzo was alive he was not sentimental about 'last year's news'....

I don't think they castings themselves were scrapped, just used up over the years......

The interview was very interesting, he mentioned that Ferrari had 'lost' all the old car customers at the Dealership level and was struggling to get them back.......

    Interesting.....

curisoity had gotten to me. In the twisted mind I call home, I've wondered how hard it would be to adapt the steering wheels w/ the rev lights to other cars. And I have experienced the seats in an F430 (do not believe they were Daytona seats), and they were bliss, so again my mind wandered. That sir, is the inspiration for this thread. And I feel like a tool for having not checked in on it.

No worries, but remember you'd need the engine and suspension management computer to light all the steering wheel stuff up! LOL!

There's a he11 of alot going on in that unit..........one of the reasons MOMO bowed out.......unless they still make them, in any event my info still stands!

Just save up and buy the whole 430!

Some find the Daytona ribbed seating uncomfortable, but it is very classy, and classic, IMO........

I just remeber climbing behind the wheel and thinking "I've never been a more perfect car. The seats are perfect, the view is perfect, the performance is perfect. And while I can't afford the view or the performance right now, I am smitten w/ the seats."

If people hadn't been watching, I might have tried to take them home with me...
