    Hi all,

Title says it all really, I'm in the hunt for my first ferrari. Looking at getting an 06/07 F430 F1 Spider and need some advise... and who better then the owners themselves :)

I was initially after a nero black with crema leather but have seen the rosso with black leather and it's making me think twice. My thinking is the black f430 won't stand out as much so will get less unwanted attention which is nice when parked when out, where the red just looks better and after all it's a ferrari! Question is has anyone had the same dilemma and bought the black and regret not getting the red or vice versa?

The other question is the seats, I have seen two different sets; one I guess is racing (carbon fibre back), and the other I guess looks more luxury. Are the sports seats worth the extra?

Also is there anything I should watch out for on these years? (recalls, early faults)

Apologise in advance as you will probably see alot more random questions from me in the coming weeks :)

Hopefully soon to be in the club !

Some people who drove earlier 430's said the 2007 model year cars in their opinion drove better. One thing in favour of the earlier models; steel brakes were standard and the expensive carbon brakes were an option...
Good luck with your search! There is a reason Rosso Corsa is popular; it just looks perfect 'in the flesh'.

just "popped my cherry" last week with an TDF blue/tan '06 430. haven't been able to get this damn smile of my face!! just posted some pics in an intro thread here. the car is amazing.

my vote would be for the nero black/crema. i've been in a moded 996 for the past 10 years that still turns quite a few heads, but the attention this car has gotten in the first week is unreal. i'm a pretty laid back guy, so that will take a little getting use to.

    good luck with the search--

Sorry to be a old prude but please refrain from using this expression. It's a bit crass. I've seen it several times here lately.

Do you have a budget in mind? What kind of sports car experience / ownership are you used to / coming from? The sport seats are rare for a 430 and very nice, but you would need to sit in them and decide if they are comfortable enough for you, everyone is different. You would want Daytona seat inserts at a minimum, also help big time with resale.

2007's sans CC brakes were recently around 170-175 with low miles, seen a few with less than 10k miles for mid 160's. Drop 10-15k for a 2006.

Get a PPI inspection before buying, from an independent other than the current dealer. Many threads on here on what to check for. If car checks out maintenance wise, try to get all accessories included: keys, codes, tool kit, car cover, manuals, etc.

    Good luck.

lol, I went from (well still have it) a modded 996tt to Ferrari (rossa corsa 360 in my case), and there sure is a hell of a difference in attention, especially in Columbus, OH. A few people pay attention to a black Porsche, but EVERYONE pays attention to a red Ferrari. It's fun, you have to embrace it, otherwise, you'll dislike owning most Ferrari models.

I've had five Ferraris now and never had a bright red one. Working on getting my sixth and it's not bright red either. Black is my favorite Ferrari color then the darker reds. Just an opinion.

I love this color! And if I'm correct, it was specifically introduced for the 430 (although it is now available on other post-430 models).

Grigio Silverstone on Cuoio is very classy! As is Grigio Silverstone on Bordeaux. Grigio Silverstone on Black with contrasting stitching is also one of my favorites.

A wholesaler once told me that for resale, the two "must haves" when he buys 430s are Daytona seats and Shields. He also values the CF racing seats, but would never buy a 430 with standard seats or without shields.

Looks like the mods have changed the thread title.... ooops my bad!

Thanks for all the replies :)

Agree with the comments on trying to embrace the fact that this car is an attention magnet, which I won't have an issue with :) but it does pick at me that the car will get unwanted attention when I'm not around and I am consciously trying to minimise that by picking a more subtle colour. But saying that I believe you shouldn't make life decisions based on other influences so tough one..

I have started to lean towards the Rosso Corsa though, I have found one which looks amazing, it's a 2006 F1 Rosso with Black leather, red stitching throughout, Carbon fibre racing seats with red crossstitching, tubi exhaust, shields, parking sensors (needed for me!), loads of carbon fibre extras; driving zone, vents, doors sills, front splitter, rear diffuser, engine bay and air filters. It's done 8k miles looks like it may be the one, one thing I'm not too keen on is the red dials but have seen these can be changed to the yellow. This one is a little over budget though but the extras might make it worth it in the long term when it comes to selling.

I did also see a Grigio Silverstone (@DLopez001) with Red leather which did look mean as hell! It was the same price as the one before but is a 2008 which has had me thinking.

Also I should have mentioned I'm based out in the UK so $$-££ might be a little different.

Again cheers for all the help and advise, really appreciate it.

Also I'm coming from a BMW M6, love the car to pieces and will be sad to see it go :(

But i'm sure the 430 will help dry those tears

I would get yellow or bright red for a Ferrari! Especially with black leather or cream interior!

Keep in mind that some colors are metallic, while others are not. In my experience, the non-metallic colors are much more of a hassle to keep detailed and looking great. Both my cars were metallic colors (first silver, then titanium). I would spend $5 in quarters at the do-it-yourself car wash and the cars always looked fantastic. Meanwhile, many friends who had the non-metallic colors (such as black, red, etc.) spent far more time and money keeping their cars looking good (especially when viewed under garage lights).

The metallic paints reflect light in a such a manner where they tend to hide small nicks and scratches also.

Black looks good, but it doesn't really show off the lines of the car. I originally wanted either a yellow or black 355, but when I saw them in person I was left a little flat (no pun intended) by the black car. The yellow was over the top. While looking at them, I saw a silver car with black interior in the show room and it was all over. The other two colors just couldn't compete (for me). I bought the silver car and loved it the whole time I owned it.

If I bought another Ferrari, I would consider flat black, but that's difficult to find in the used market.

    Anyway, just some thoughts.

    Ray
