I am looking at a 360 coupe in Denver at an exotic car dealer. Any one know the car? it is at Rocky Mountain Sport `99 360 FI. I asked to get a PPI at the Denver Ferrari dealer. They would prefer to get it done at Concours garage. Does any one know the garage? His reason to go to Concours was that the F dealer has been ripping up other cars other than their own. Any help will be appreciated Thanks

Do you have a link to the car? Or to the website of the dealer? I couldn't find them via Google.

Out of state PPI can be tricky but is doable. There is some concern about getting a PPI done through a "preferred" dealer - are they really independent?

What's the concern with getting the PPI at Ferrari of Denver? 360s are their maintenance bread and butter and I wouldn't be concerned about incompetence or anything like that there. It sounds like you might get a more independent take on the car there.

If FoD is willing to look at the car and turn around a PPI quickly for you, and you're willing to pay them whatever it is they're charging, then that would be my suggestion.

Another option is Dave Helms in Boulder, CO, Scuderia Rampante, www.****************.com, 303-938-9000. He tends to stay very busy in the summer time and I'm not sure about availability with respect to a PPI, but it's worth a call.

Do you know the ownership history on the car? Does Rocky Mountain Sport deal with Ferraris often?

Mike, the reason you didn't find it on Google is that it's actually called Rocky Mountian Eurosport. The car was the show last week but I never took a close look.

There is a Concourse in Colorado Springs. They are a good shop, but a heck of a drive for a PPI. If not FoD, then Dave Helms for sure.

I'm assuming thats the 99 with something like 3K original miles? Its on Ebay I think, and its a pretty car with the pictures.

As someone else mentioned, I'd try Dave Helms for a PPI. Rocky Mtn Eurosport does go through alot of cars, but I've not heard anything bad about them.

I think this is the car:

Yes that is the car the Burgundy 360 with low miles. The dealer gave me a resonable price but not that low that I would jump all over it. Thanks for your suggestions. I might find a newer one at about the same price but probably with more miles. The car does not have the major service done. I was sceptical of going with his suggestion. I would prefer the dealer in Denver but I understand that the dealer might really take the car apart. Our dealer here has that tendency as well. I'll call David in Boulder. thanks for the help I appreciate it.

I have heard mix reviews about Rocky Mountain Eurosport. I would be a bit wary of them. Just make sure to do your homework. I remember seeing the car at the show. It looked nice but I didn't take a close at it. I would use either Dave (if he has the time) or FoD for your PPI. If they say no to either of those two I would look else where. Never heard of Concours garage.

Still unsure what your concern about "pulling the car apart" is... It's not like they're going to pull the heads off the engine. You can have some influence in the process as well!

Mike I think he is talking about the selling dealer not wanting the car to go FoD because they rip apart the car.

Right, I understand, I just don't think that's accurate. I think it's a load of BS from the selling dealer.

yes the implication is that the F dealer will rip up the car in the PPI not literally but write up alot of repairs that need to be done that are not necessarily deal breakers. This would not be unlike a really tough home inspector looking at the house you are selling. Thanks again everyone.

My final thought. Any dealer who is not readily willing to let a Ferrari he has go to the local Ferrari dealer for a PPI should be negotaited with carefully. They should not be afraid of knowing what the car needs or doesn't need. I'll move ahead accordingly.

    +1!

A car with that few miles shouldn't have much to fix except deferred service. BTW, has any recall work related to the suspension be done?

There are enough 360 out there (though maybe not in this color) that you shouldn't settle for this one.

PPI at FoD (or Dave Helms' place) or walk.

Ok, so it sounds like you have negotiated with them on the price and the next logical step is a PPI. If you're willing to take the leap into Ferrari ownership wouldn't you want to know every detail about the car? However minor it may be? The inspection should be more than a quick run around the block and to make sure the paint is shiny. A burned out bulb isn't a deal breaker, a torn CV boot shouldn't be a deal breaker but a clogged cat could potentially end the process...
FWIW, I sent a Ferrari to Dave's (Scudertia Rampante, Carlos) place several months ago for a PPI, he did his job correctly and found items I was unaware of which ultimately cost me the sale but that doesn't mean I won't allow Dave to do another PPI :)
I wouldn't say don't buy the car because they won't allow FoD to perform a PPI, just becareful.

Well I have used Dave in the past on a 328 I was going to buy. I was lucky enough to be there for the process and I can tell you Dave gave me a good education about the car. I really learned a lot from him that day. The car had a few issues that I didn't know and the seller didn't know. One ended up being a deal breaker but only because they would not lower the price.

Just remember there are lots of 360's out there for sell and you are the one paying for the PPI. So get it done where you want to have it done at.

Sound advise. Funny thing is the car Derek brought up ended as a no sale against my advise. Very nice car overall.
In a PPI, our job is not to tell someone how pretty a car is, we are being paid to find problems. If a PPI at FoD "tore up" a car, someone got a good value regarding a PPI and they should be thanked for their efforts.
The best PPI one could hope for is multiple pages long and then one sits down and determins what are REAL issues and what are glitches. Show me a Ferrari with a PERFECT PPI and I can point out a BS'er.
A few weeks ago I did an inspection on a car that came to town from a sale on the east coast. The process revolved around a conflict of interest PPI done out there and resulted in a car being shipped back and forth across the country and ended in a no sale. Only party that didnt loose money was the friend (shop) of the seller that did the poor quality PPI. Bad deal for all involved.

    Carlos,
PM Derek and see what he has rat holed away for cars, he is still my first call when I need to find one for a customer.

    Dave
