    Hello,

I am a big fan of the 348 as well as the 355 style. In fact I have been putting away money for some time to pick up a 348GTB and finally have my garage complete for storage however and my question should I wait it out and pick up a 355 instead. From reading the forum here and the specs, looks like it might be a wise move to waite until the end of the summer.

From what I have seen 45-65K for 348 / 55k to 85K for 355's of course ebay influenced these numbers but Ebay scares me a little.

Besides the ferrariads here and my name at both NW Ferrari dealers, where would one look out for a prime example.

    Thanks in advance,

    Tyler

im sure you will get a more detailed response from other chatters, but from what i have read, 355's are much more to maintain

Totally up to you---that is the first thing you need to figure out--Which one?? You will get 100 differnet responses here about whether go with the 348 or 355---you have to make that determination and then start your search. Alot of guys will tell you buy the best you can for your money. Others will tell you buy a cheaper car and save money for future maintenance...You have to make the choice first...Feel free to ask specific questions you can not find by searching first---we are here to help!!!

They're very different cars, but as Houston348 says the 355 has some eye-popping parts/service costs. You probably already know about ECUs, valve guides and cracked manifolds, and maybe those expensive F1 clutches.

The 348 has its own problems, but if it was a choice between scraping into a low-end 355 or getting a 348GTB (or top of the line Spider), I'd likely go for the latest 348 I could find with a solid service history. Also I like the unassisted steering and absence of power accessories. The 355 is a bit luxe and complicated. I would take the 348 Spider's nice manual top, for example, over the Rube Goldberg-designed 355 Spider power top mechanism.

But buy what you really want -- all Ferraris cost a bundle to maintain.

Probably unwise to mention in this section, but the 328 and 348 overlap quite a bit in price. 328s now are listed anywhere from $40K (driver) -$70K (show car). If you can deal with a tight cockpit, dated ergonomics and the car's TV fame, and you like the looks, consider it. They're brilliantly balanced, a blast to drive, and more affordable to maintain (parts prices are lower) than the 348 or 355. But there's no doubt the 348/355 feel more modern.

I would never buy a Ferrari off eBay unless I knew the car/seller. I would check Ferrari dealers plus reputable high-line dealers such as Sport Auto, Motorcars Int'l and others. A lot of us bought out of town, so keep that option open.

Check this out. It's here in Cali. and just had a full service done, and it's only $50k. They called me this morning, but I bought a car just two weeks ago. Daum. I prolly would have stuck with what I bought anyways because I wanted a 91 or 92 with tan leather.

Check with the Ferrari mechanics in your area - they're motivated to help find you a good car, know a lot of the hidden histories, and are likely to not push you into a fright-mobile.

Also check with the FCA/FOC executives in your area, they'll know a lot of good drivers that may be for sale.

Asking in the relative country or state section will also help, as will filling out your profile - which NW are you in, NorthWest USA? or New Wales, or.... ?

I guess you'll have to learn to drive it in wet weather.
