Sorry, Dave, but I'm personally offended by those PMs. We have no need for users who send stuff like that. I sent him away forever.

Thanks El Wayne. I am not sure why this guy is so full of hatred. What happens if he tries to create a new profile under a differnet name?

so im going to take the OP's question to a little more detail...the 348...model comparison from 90 ts up to the 95 spider? any thing about the newr or older versions that should be said for us new b idiots?

ive heard the early cars had a aero suspension issuea t high speed that made them feel "light" in the front?

the 94+ cqars have a wider rear track? what difference does this make?

is a 90 ts worth more less or the same as a 94 spider? why

engine the same throughout the model line?

Having only driven the 94+ model, I was unaware of the earlier issues. So IMHO the 94+ are worth more, unless the earlier model has been modified to avoid any shortcomings. As for the Spider issue, I had one and was satisfied. After seeing the smile on someone's face who previously had only driven the TS but then drove mine, I would highly recommend the Spider. My only caveat would be high speed runs... there is no metal between you & the road should you flip her, but then again at 170 MPH would it matter?

I'm new to these cars too so please forgive all of the newbie questions. I'd really like to be able to buy a Haynes manual or a Chilton to just read up on how to repair these cars. At home I have these plus various factory service manuals that I use to work on my cars as well as those of friends and family. Anyway, I keep reading about minor and major maint. What's the difference here?

I have a car lift at home and am not afraid to take a motor out if needed. Does a "Major" always call for the engine to be taken out? If so (stupid question) how does it come out (over the top - like US cars, down through the bottom - like my Porsches, or remove rear bumper and slide out the back?)?

Also, it seems that all everyone ever talks about is how expensive maint is but is that because everyone is taking their car to the dealer? Do 96+ cars not come with an OBDII port so you can read the codes and troubleshoot on your own at home? I know the cars are expensive, but I guess all I want to know is what maint can you NOT do on your own?

    Thanks

    OK, where to start...!

    1) Unless you are a flat out pro with about 10 years rebuilding engines, dont even think you know how to take one out of the Ferrari past 1975 and put it back in. Seriously! Yes it is "just a car" but the tooling, ect is very odd and precise and if you get it at all wrong... $$$$$$$. Best is ALWAYS LET THE PRO DO IT!!! (At worst, a true mechanics insurance will cover it if HE messes it up.)

    2) Minor = oil change, check the belts, normal stuff. Major = engine out, look at everything, engine back in. So figure about $1000 a year vs. $15k in one shot. Depending on how you drive, expect a major about every 5 years or so.

    My $0.02

Yes, major on these require engine removal. at "my348.com"(process same for 348/355), it tells you step by step how to do it. If you have done a Porsche then you can do a Ferrari. I have spoke with guys much less skill then you who have done it. And it can be done with floor jacks.

You remove rear bumper and the engine cradle drops with rear wheels attached.

Yes, most guys do take their car to a shop/dealer which shop rate private $125, dealer $250.

If you can do the work yourself then it cut the expense greatly and the computer can be read at home.

And thing, if people drove these cars then they would require less repair but preventive maintenance is critical.

IT IS JUST A CAR with a lot of support to help you through most anything.

Buy One Drive it and ENJOY!!!
