OEM Part number is 61496700 or 61571600 for a TR, depending on your assembly number. On a 512TR it's 61571600 only. 512M uses 63671500. Expect to pay about $100/ea, maybe a few bucks less. Be sure to tell your friendly parts counter exactly what you've got.

Shocks that will actually hold up the hood are just a temporary condition; pay the $200 for parts and they should last for a good six months.

I've found the the proper use of the back of my head will hold the hood up long enough to dig around in there and find what I want, or to connect the battery tender

Bryan, those clamps are a nice cheap fix, but be careful not to torque down too tightly on the steel shafts.

Somewhere I have contact info for a guy who can rebuild these struts rather reasonably, but only if the shafts arent damaged. Also, if you score them deeply, they may leak and cause an oily mess.

After reading from this thread it seems to be a common incurable symptom so I think I will continue using my back to support it!

    Thanks, Greg!

FYI, I spent 45 minutes at Pep Boys recently with the hood strut from my 365 GTC4. Pep Boys carries Stabilus, who has made struts for Ferrari for a long time. Found a correct match in the current Stabilus line...$26US per strut.
