Just got informed today that I have a choise to move to Waco Texas or to Delaware Ohio. I think I will opt for Texas. Holly crap! Not sure where to look for property, neighborhood etc. I am on 2.5 acers now with a nice barn etc. Is there anything like that there? I have not even informed the Wifey of this yet since she is still at work. I have been looking at homes online but can't seem to find anything yet. Can anyone point me in the right direction? May lease for a couple years, or maybe a lease option deal if I decide to stay here. Head is kinda spinning right now. HELP!!!!

    Cheers

1st you insult Texas by putting a :(

2nd. You ask if we have places that have 2.5 acres +

Have you seen a map of Texas? I do not think you would be able to find 2.5 acres here.

    Sorry.

Maybe you should pick Ohio.. :)

    LOL!!!

No attitude here, just was not expecting the news, had no idea till this morning. Not too sure what to expect there being a Washington native and all. Looks like there may be a few of us coming that way. My first search showed no homes on acerage, but I have found some now. Not too sure if I want to go that way yet or not. Have to get more info from the company on there relocation program till I know for sure. Not too sure if they will move my livestock or not. I would definately pick Texas over Ohio, think I'm a better fit there. Head is still spinning though. Excited but a little freeked out too. Think I need a glass of wine! I like how you folks jumped to defend your state, I ment no disrespect with the frowning face. Not too easy to move from your home of the last 50 years.

    Cheers!

:) I think you'll find that we generally are proud of our state and are very welcome to anybody coming through, or in your case coming to stay (for a while at least). Just don't go against our state ;)

Glad you're choosing Texas, Highway 35 from Waco is usually pretty clear of "Smokey's" so a Ferrari would definitely fit right in. Beautiful hill country not too far off either. Welcome!

I'm a Colorado native and grew up hating Texans and everything they represent. I've now been here 20 years and I'm not leaving.

Waco probably wouldn't be my first choice of location, but there are MUCH worse places to be. It's an hour to Dallas, 45 minutes to Lake Richland Chambers. If you own livestock, TX is your kind of place.

There is plenty of acreage in Texas. You need to find the right realtor who deals with it and familiar with the areas. You want a barn like the one you have? We have plenty of those here. If Texas was willing to accept my Dad when he was a youngster coming from Maine, you'll easily fit in, lol. Thank God and Texas I was born here. Next, you need to work on using y'all a lot....lol....

Being a "yankee" and moving from the north down to Texas I will give you the good the bad and the ugly....start with the ugly a) the weather, in the summer its just freaking HOT no other way to put it, with that said I stay inside most of the summer b) its not what I would call beautiful landscape...if your from Washington this could be a major deal...Texas has lots of highway and its flat with the expection of the occasional overpasses. The bad...again weather, every state has its thing...for you now its probabably rain, move to OH and its snow...no real 4 seasons in Texas, basically only 2. The good or great...No state income tax, the economy here is better then anywhere else. Folks are friendly, depending on where you live you maybe around of lot of transplants from IL, NY, CA are pretty popular. Texas is 3 times the size of most other states so you can go on vacation and get a change of scenery without ever leaving the state. There is a LOT of money in Texas....look around and you will find fortune 100 companies and folks with a lot of nice homes and cars.

I can show you east Texas where you'll think you're in Germany somewhere, until you stop for beer, anyway...

Why don't you and your wife enter your 308 in the Texas 1000 Rally (vintagerallies.com) in November? I guarantee it will be the most fun you have had in a long time and you will go back to Washington with a much better feeling about moving to Texas.

Tell your wife there's nothing to be worried about if you know how to drive. There are lots of great adventures in Texas. Around Dallas, at least, so many people are moving in from other parts of the country that it's easy to meet others who are interested in making new friends.

We have only 3 steers, 4 pigs and about 130 laying hens. But I think we will butcher or sell them all before we move. May look for a place on an acre or so, so we have room for the dogs.
