On memorial day I got a work call to head a few blocks away from my apartment, so naturally, being a beautiful day, I jumped in the 308 and ran to take care of some quick issues. On my way back to my apartment, what should have been a quick hour of work and a delightful little cruise around downtown, was ended by a hungover girl visiting from Austin failing to notice a red light. Car has bounced around since then, and finally, yesterday, I managed to get in contact with the shop (Stuart's in Dallas), where I was quoted $88,000 to repair.

So, I guess 51317 probably wont be coming back home. If I had a check for the car, I probably won't spend today's prices on one. If I have the opportunity to buy it back, I might be talked into passing it along to someone for cost+some cash to make it worth my time.

Stuart's is the best in town. Try another shop?

    Sorry about your car. :(

Haven't found any others that will be able to source the Euro parts. At this point, I make 1/3 of what I did when I bought the car, so I'm not really in the mood to put up a fight.

That sucks. Sorry for the loss. That looks repairable....easily. What am I missing damage wise from the pictures? I think you could get the fender and nose sheet metal used and lower valence and euro valence/grill (albeit reproductions) fairly easily. Did it tweak the frame? Someone should save it.

Unless there's something truly nasty hidden, I just don't see that much damage. I'd get another quote or 4.

Don't know anything about your car, but interested if you are selling. I don't feel you are getting a fair shake. I have connections in my town, but I am up in Pittsburgh where.... we'll people are still civil to one an other. I am not paying retail however. Insurance? Is it totaled and will have salvage title? If so, my offer won't be impressive.

everything sheetmetal on the front that isnt the vents, or the passenger headlight bucket has some sort of damage. Bumper went through the radiator ($8k there alone, for a reproduction). I ran a little over $30k on my own estimate.

So will it be salvage? What about insurance? I am looking and not that scared of a project. Like your car other than the damage. Sorry to hear about all of this for you. Part of me says run from Ferrari 308's if the amount to fix that is more than the value of the car. That is pretty scary. Let me know where you land. I am looking and not financing. You seem very honest.

Hope it can be fixed and you are driving it again to be honest. Looks like you really cared for it and you should try and fix it.

I' m not a damage expert, by no means. However that amount sounds rediculous. Pity we are not exactly neighbors: this would be a job for my mechanic/buddy Marco and his partner. They work miracles with damaged parts and charge a fixed labour rate for all cars, wether VW, Honda or Ferrari. A classic example of honest craftsmen wich are also true petrolheads. They for shure are not the only ones on the planet !

Really sorry about your Euro 308 QV, but I'm glad you're okay, that really does sucks big time and the estimate sucks too. I feel like the body shop wanted to take advantage since it's a Ferrari. It really doesn't look that big of a damage to be totaled.

I'm not doubting the shops craftsmanship but the price is very high. Too high. You can get an aftermarket radiator for 2k if not less. Only if there's frame damage would I expect that.

There's a bunch of parts recyclers in Europe that likely have the parts. If you want to be resourceful you can get it done PDG at a good price. I be much of that metal can be saved! If you don't want it I get that.

For many years all of the major work done was worth more than the car. I hope someone here gets to save it. Hopefully another reputable shop on here that does halfway decent work will contact you and get it done in your budget.

Used OEM radiators are about 1k-2k and new ones are 4k. OEM bumpers are rarer but not that expensive at about 0.5k-1k from Europe car breakers. I don't get the 8k figure for repros...

Sorry to hear your loss, but the quote is way too high.

Very sorry to hear this.. After owning a body shop for many years and looking at the picture closely, this thing took a pretty good hit. Judging by how The energy was transferred across the front end, buckling the hood and passenger side fender, I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't some bit of frame damage. $88k sounds excessive all right but I'm not standing there. Sometimes a body shop will quote an extremely high estimate just because they really don't want the project inless they make substantial money on it, Think that may be the case here. Agree with the posts above that this is a car worth saving and a time consuming but not an overly troublesome project. DYIer could probably make it car perfect again for around $12,000. Although it will always have a salvage title. 2cts.

Just a thought. Not sure what the car was insured for but if you can get around $90,000 replacement cost, I would be tempted to contact Mark Bradon and try to work a deal out on the nero/cream 84 Euro QV he has an inventory. Very beautiful car and I believe 23,000 miles? Would absolutely love to own that QV! :)

Car was hit on Memorial day, been bounced around and this hasn't been settled yet? Any decent insurance company would have cut a check long ago. What's missing form the story? No collision insurance?

Anyway, unless there is frame damage frame damage the estimate you quoted is a joke.

I am having a difficult time understanding how that is a $90,000 repair.

What in this world's hell are they charging you for parts? A bumper and radiator on a 308, Euro, even, are not that big of a deal to replace. You car do just that for under $2000.

I agree that the estimate for this seems ridiculously high. But when I got rear-ended in my former 308GTB, the damage was almost unnoticeable (headers, muffler, bumper, rear under fascia) - and still came to $12.5K. On the plus side the Tubi headers and muffler were GORGEOUS! :D

it may end up with a salvage title but its a ferrari and this will be a hell of a story a part of its history and if everyone here is right that it can be fixed for say 12k i think you should go for it

First of all, calm down. You are in control of this, not the repairmen or the insurance company. Both will try to bully you! If the insurance representative gives you a lowball figure (if it hasn't been predetermined) or tries to rush you, immediately go above his head. If necessary, contact your state department of insurance. If you want to keep the car, it will take some time and research. If that's not your thing, get your money and move on!

Also, the sharks are circling and will be telling you how easy it is to get your money from the insurance company and still sell it to them. If you don't want the car for yourself, do not buy it back from the insurance company to sell to someone else. Been there, done that! Let the sharks do their own dirty work!
