I have a 1989 328 , and the map pocket doesn't stay closed . I know there is a spring to keep it closed , where do I purchase a new spring and how do I remove the old one and replace the new one , Thanks Elliot

You have to remove the door card in order to remove the map pocket from it.

    From memory:

    Disconnect the battery
Lift the opening latch & there is a clevis pin under it that disconnects the cable
6 screws in the lower half of the panel
Remove the two small access panels on the door handle to get access to the three large screws that hold it to the door.
Pop out the puddle light from the bottom of the door handle
Unscrew the door handle (3 screw bolts)
Unhook the electrics (be careful with the mirror switch if its the driver's side)
    Unscrew the lock button
Lift the panel up & away - it will be kind of hung up on the release cable , you can thread that down through the arm rest

The map pocket/arm rest is then secured to the panel by some studs/nuts - you will see them on the back of the panel.

First time you do it it may take a while - once you know how its done - 10-15 minutes max.

Once you have the arm rest off you will see how you dis-assemble the mechanism from the back. There are two springs & they are "handed"

Ricambi sells replacement springs in pairs (one of yours will most likely be broken).

I just did this repair recently when the passenger power window went. It's actually easy to bend one more loop of the old spring back but you do have to play around with the orientation. Once you take the door panels off, you can easily see how the mechanism work. Mine had a broken spring, right at the end of one loop.
