Hi everyone, I am putting a new coolant bottle in my 2011 458. While the old one is out, I noticed the small gauge black wire in the inside right rear body panel near the back of the gas filler door shown in the attached picture that is not attached to anything on one end. I'm thinking it's a ground but I'm wanting to check if anyone knows where it attaches for sure. Thanks.

IT might be a bonding or ground strap from the fuel filler door/sealing apparatus that eliminates the gas cap. Since that sealing system is metal, one wouldn't want a static electrical spark emanating from the gas filler nozzle to the filler door. Just my guess. I haven't seen that area of my car exposed, but I did have the filler door apparatus replaced as it was giving a code that indicated it was not sealing. So there must be some wired connection to it to determine that is functioning properly. Has your filler door apparatus been replaced?

Thanks for the feedback. I bought my car in 2018 and it has not been replaced since I've owned it. Not sure prior to that but nothing in the records that I got from the previous owner indicates it has been.

Put a vom across it to ground and if 0 Ohms or nearly so, it probably is a ground wire. I'd put it on one of the bolt ends shown in your picture. Prob 6mm x.1 thread best guess for a bolt. Test it for voltage also, but I wouldn't know what circuit is would be on to test for voltage. I don't have a 458 wiring diagram but will look.

I'm assuming "Earth Distribution" in the FSM is the ground distribution. If so, here's what I'm seeing for it. Nothing that close as far as location of my loose wire. The loose end of the wire actually looks clean and like it has never been attached to anything. Interesting!

Does it look like it's something aftermarket or stock? Surely someone can look at their car and tell you where it goes.

It actually looks stock coming off a harness. I don't see anything to think otherwise. I'm hoping someone can take a look and chime in if convenient.

Yeah, I saw that. G095 is listed has a hydraulic pump in the cylinder bank in the legend. Does not appear to in the fender well.

    Thanks.

Will it reach the rt cyl bank? There are 2 grounds listed on the engine bank on other diagrams. Maybe someone forgot to reconnect it after some work done. That's about all that I can help with.

No, it won't reach the cylinder bank. It's only about 3" long. Thanks for trying to help.
