I need to lose weight and it sucks, anyone else here working on losing some weight? I was doing so good before, I lost a lot of weight but I feel like I hit a plataue and am sick to death of trying to watch what I eat, and it seems like in recent months Ive had a lot less self control. Ugh, trying to get myself back on the right path but its hard. Especially with finals coming up I have no time to work out.

I hate the yo yo thing myself, I just gave up...its easier.

I just watch my portion size now, and do activities I like to keep moving.

Its not that Im yo-yo-ing like crazy. 5 years ago I weight 265, right now I weigh 210 but I used to weight 190 earlier last year. I got really scared after I saw the weight I gained and now its kinda starting to depress me. But I realized in the last 6 months Ive been doing especailly bad as far as my health is concerned and while Im making strides to get back into my old habits it's really tough. Hopefully after I finish finals I can get into some hardcore working out.

Cardio, all cardio man. Depending on your height, 210 is not bad at all. If you use to be at 190 and that's where you'd like to be, keep the mind frame you're in right now. Good luck!

I've been working at it since January 4. As of today I am 20.5lbs lighter :D. All I did was exericse on the bike twice a day (morning and evening) for 35 mins per session, and did weights too. Also, I eat nothing but a Veggie Lite sub for lunch, with the only sauce being a bit of light mayo for taste. I also tend to eat simple grilled chicken for protein. Breakfast is usually 2 boiled eggs, no yolk and a peice of toast. Lots of salads and milk, and orange juice also. This routine has worked wonders for me so far.

I'm also an avid basketball freak, so every other day I play ball at the University GYm and let me tell you, those 4 on 4 pick up games drain a struckload of energy, and calories (and protein unfortunatley!). So that helps keep my activity levels in check. The key is lots of exercise and healthy food choice. But don't overdo the exercise.

I'm 5'11, and 201 right now. Trying to hit 190 within the next 5-6 weeks or so. Wish me luck!

you just gotta find a reason to be active.

i was ~103kg (230lbs) 2 years ago, i wasn't desperate to lose weight but i knew i wasn't healthy. over the next year or so i also had some lifestyle changes (living alone again so not so many 'social' meals, and away from the cafe strip) and just naturally went to around 95-98kg (210-215lbs), which is about my standard non-active weight.

i've been a little more active over the last 6 months and so hovering in the low 90's (200-205lbs), then a month ago i went to the river with a bunch of people nearly 10 years younger than me (i'm 29) for some kneeboarding and skiing and stuff. i was so incapable of kneeboarding for more than a few minutes (if you haven't done it, you wouldn't believe how stressful it is on an unexercised body) but it was so fun that i decided next time i do it i want to be able to enjoy it more.

so last 2 weeks i haven't had any alcohol (i drink frequently :D ) and i've been running and doing curls and pushups (need lots of upper-body strength with my stockiness :p ), haven't really lost much weight per-se, sitting at around 87kg (190-195lbs) but feeling much healthier, stronger and with decent stamina.

my absolute ideal weight is around 78kg (170lbs) which i was back in 1997 when i was almost iron-man fit.... 3 reps of 70 pushups, 500+ situps, fast 5km runs... none of it fazed me, but i also didn't drink and was in a new place without many friends to do social stuff with which meant only eating when needed and i exercised A LOT. i figger my maintainable weight would be low-to-mid 80's (180-185lbs), which includes regular exercise but not to the point of it being booooring, and also without compromising my drinking and eating diet, two of the few things in life i really enjoy doing.

well, going up the river tomorrow for a weekend of kneeboarding and skiing (and drinking! ). we'll see if it's paid off at all...

just remember, find something that gives you a reason to be fit. take up a sport is the best bet, i'm looking for one now that's not too boring and non-contact (spinal injury a year ago). i need something to spur me on each day, something more than being fit for fitness sake.

Remember that proper diet is far more important than exercise, although a balance of both is best.

One recent study had subjects exercise 30 minutes day 5 days week, medium intensity cardio, with no change to their eating habits. The subjects lost no weight.

The second group did no exercise but were put on healthy calorie restricted regimens. They all lost weight.

The third group combined a calorie restricted diet with regular cardio and lost 40% more weight than the diet-only group, and kept the weight off for over a year, which is when the study ended.

Basically, you have to change the quantity of food you are consuming daily or it will be a very tough battle.

I've never really had a weight problem other than being husky when I was a kid but I do bodybuild and understand the importance of diet and exercise, BTW I weigh about 205 am 5'10" and am mostly pure muscle.

Get a note pad and write down everything you eat for a week or so and find out what the bad stuff is in your diet and get rid of it, you could try some meal substitutes such as protein powder etc., its better to eat 5 or 6 times a day with very small portions that are not fattening and healthy that way you are not hungry which may cause yourself to binge eat later, most important get a energy suppliment to increase you energy level and it will increase your metabolism burning fat also as when you diet the hardest part is loss of energy as well from reduced calories.

    good luck

Yeah I knwo thats the toughest part cause I LOVE food. But I have a good track record as far as weight loss in concerned. I NEED to make the change. Talking about it motivates me, thats why I started this post. Maybe it will motivate others here too... I hope.

Yes, it's tough. We all love food.

You're only given one life though and only one "vehicle" to go through life in, and that's your body. Some people choose to abuse their vehicles; others treat them like gold.

I've been on both sides of the fence before, so I have empathy and compassion in both cases.

I'm 5'9, 66kg (145.5lbs). Very slim, not toned whatsoever, little muscle mass, and fitness ain't the best either.

I just joined the Uni gym (only $105 for the whole year!) and made friends with a student who had just come from co-running a gym, and also happens to be a personal trainer. Starting from next week we're going to go to the gym 3 - 4 times a week for an hour at a time and he will teach me how to do weights, what diet, etc. I'd also do cardio 3 - 5 times a week for 30mins - 1hr at a time. This will be a combination of swimming and jogging.

I've been meaning to do something about my fitness for 1.5 yrs, so it's about time. I made a habit of healthy eating back then and have managed to stick to it. Can't say the same about exercise and physical training...

I think one important aspect is unless you are very disciplined, it is extremely hard to get started when you don't know what the hell you are doing, and unless you are going with a friend or relative, can be quite intimidating.

Far out man,you are a twig! :D Gotta beef up brother ;) Im a poster child for weight loss  Im 6'2 and now hovering around the 115-117Kg. I was once 140Kg 2 years ago and maxed out at 145Kg 4 years ago. Thats what you get living at home  Mums cooking is the best! hehe. I lost all that weight when i moved out of home and all i ever ate was Weetbix 24/7! No sh*t guys!! I ate that for around 6 months and lost that weight. After that,i went to tuna in springwater and lots of fruit. To this day the same diet, with Centrum daily ;) I was never a chubby big guy,im very very solid and ive always been a big guy my entire life. I was 63Kg when i was in grade 3,92Kg in grade 7 and i was 130Kg in grade 10. Then went up to 140Kg after school. For the last 4 months, ive been doin a great weights/workout routine with some friends. And im back on the bike riding to work. I may even take up basketball again, although my work nightshifts clash with it. :D

What are you doing besides watching what you eat? I lost 42 pounds in a little over one year by eating five small meals a day and working out five days a week. It is imperative that you eat within 20 minutes of waking up every morning to get your metabolism going...that is one of the most important things you must do to help you lose weight...even more important that what you eat. Then throughout the day you need to eat a small meal every 4 hours to keep your metabolism going. That with five workouts a week including cardio and weights and you wil drop fat and gain muscle like crazy...try it for six months and report back to us...

I used to work out, probably around 4 times a week, mostly cardio with some resistance training. In that time I gained a lot of weight I wasn't working out. I started working out again about 3 weeks ago.
