My 82 Mondial seems to have a recurrent problem, but different cause.
It rides along fine, then suddenly there is a small backfire or pop noise, then it feels like it is on only four cylinders.
This has come up before, and here were the fixes:

    Replace ignition coil wire $526
    ___________________________________

Replace TDC sensor and mod wiring to TDC $1047
    _____________________________________

Replace spark plug extensions and waterproof boots in ignition wires $422

Any ideas what it could be THIS time?
    Thanks
    Sam

Has your mechanic already implemented the fix Paul Sloan is recommending in this thread?:

I believe that your '82 has the same vintage of K-Jet electonics so even if not mounted in the same manner and/or place it might still be applicable.

I added the ground wire that was recommended and have driven over 200 miles with no problems. I would try this fix first. It is cheap and easy!

    Thanks F-chat!

Sounds like it could be fuel starvation. Did you replace the fuel filter? You might replace or at least blow out the fuel lines with compressed air. Do Mondials have two gas tanks? If so, there is a small brass (we hope not plastic!) T that connects the two and this T is a common place for a clog to develop. Easy to replace!
