Maybe it’s not that bad- nothing a PPI would have caught anyways... We’re you driving hard? Donut? Anything crazy? Murphy’s law i guess. Feel bad for both OP and Shamile on that one! Best of luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nope, noticed smoke while at a stop light 2 mile from my house. Driven the car around 50 miles, just one of those things that happens.
Have exhaust removed. Of all my tools I don’t have an 12mm hex to take off the fill plug. I am going to make a tool an refill the gearbox and see if I can see where it’s leaking. With the exhaust and everything out of the way I can really see the area and there is no cracks anywhere. Everything is dry, no oil was spraying out. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Can’t go any further. Checked every tool place around me and no one carries a 12mm hex so I’m waiting on amazon. I used my borescope and looked all over the sideplate and there is no cracks. Should I be able to see a crack? Or is the damage all internal? Also anyone else confirm that if I turn one wheel the other should turn all with the car in Neutral? Tried it on my Gallardo and I can spin one wheel without the other turning.
I have used Fastcars in Redondo Beach. They are good, but I'd call and talk to them about it. I've also spoken to GTO engineering in Hollywood/Beverly hills. I may go to them even though they are farther from me. Sent from my GM1917 using Tapatalk
Let me correct my previous statement ... The wheels should turn in the same direction when in neutral and very hard to almost impossible to turn in the opposite direction when in gear .. it is a lsd diff so that should be the way it works .. what concerns me is that in neutral one wheel turns without the other in either direction Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
In neutral I can rotate either wheel with no binding or grinding but it does not move the other wheel. In gear my weak arms can’t turn either wheel.
If I had to take a guess .. I would say if side case is not cracked ..the bearing and seal are blown due to the diff going south and causing axle to out sideways force in those bearings and seals in side case ..again just a guess ..is oil coming out from the area of the where CV joint/axle is coming from side case ? Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
That’s where I looks like it was coming from. Also where everything was wet. All my tools and I don’t have a 12mm hex... I ordered it from amazon and I’ll refill and see if I can find the leak.
Is there movement side to side/up down when you grab the axle and use force ? Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
There is no movement up or down or side to side. I can move it directional from the wheel to the gearbox.
I'm metric. Yesterday, I needed a 9/16" male hex. I was too lazy to go to the store. I found a 9/16" bolt and nut and welded the nut on bolt. I stuck the bolt head in the hex hole and unscrewed it purchasing from the nut side. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Depending on your ambition..maybe remove the half axle and see it that reveals anything more Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
Oh I’ll take everything apart . As for putting it all back together I may have a shop do that as the only experience with differentials is changing gears on Ford rearends.
Removing / installing the half axle is pretty harmless .. just would need to put back and torque all the correctly . I would mark position to flange and half axle so you can attach back the same way I guess what I wanted to see is that once half axle is out of way you can see if the remaining flange where CV /axle connect comes out /play etc .. I wouldn't touch the outer case flange yet ...the outside set of bolts I hope I was able to get my thoughts across Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
Yup, you made it clear. I’ll see if I can get that done tonight, spent last 5 hours cooking now I just need to kick everyone out
I admire how positive u are after only 6 days in and a big job to do! Great attitude ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
**** happens, either crawl into a ball and complain or fix it. Can’t play with these cars and get upset when something breaks. Talked with Paul (Newman), I’ll be having a new differential shipped to me next week.
