There, feel a little better. Our min pin disappeared from our backyard Feb 2 after midnight. Our backyard gates were all closed. I have some security cameras out front that didn't show he went out front, nor anyone entering/leaving. Only way would be to climb the small hill in back to get access to our backyard.

I was getting used to the idea that probably a coyote or other animal got him, something big that could jump the back fence. But I just got a call from someone also missing a min pin, and she mentioned that just before V-day is when dognapping is most likely.
ARRRRGGHHHHHHH!!!! Not knowing what happened to him is the hardest part. :(

Oh well, installing some more cameras to cover the back yard.

Unfortunately never chipped him. We discussed chipping him a couple of times, but he never was a wanderer. My other min pin is chipped as that was a requirement for adopting from the shelter.

Oh well, thanks for listening to my ranting. Never occurred to me that someone might have stolen him because of V-day. He was family, I can't imagine how parents must feel when their children go missing.....

Feeling better right now, but that could be the rum & cokes...... :)

I'm so sorry for the loss of your dog, I know exactly how you feel; there's nothing worse. When I was in college, someone tried to steal my dog. Dog was left in my gated and locked backyard while I ran to the store for a minute; when I got home, I went to the back to let him in and he was gone. I then saw the gate open and distinct markings showing he had been dragged out of the yard. The feeling was just awful. My dog is a pitbull, but the sweetest thing you'd ever meet. The worst part was knowing what they were going to do with him...I knew why they were taking him, he's thick and muscular. Apparently, unknowing to me, this was very common in AZ. My roommate and I nonetheless went looking for him in our cars; thankfully, we found the little guy. He had either jumped out of whatever they tried to get him into or he escaped.

Poor dog was absolutely terrfied. We found him hiding behind some bushes shaking several blocks down the road. His paws, from being dragged, were shredded. Every nail broken and all four paws bleeding. I hoped nothing more than he got a good bite of whoever tried to do that to him...however knowing my dog, he probably didn't. He probably was just too strong for them to get in their vehicle.

Again I am so sorry for what happened, have you reported it??? If it's common, others would have as well.

This was 15 days ago and no pooch found yet? HORRIBLE! I'm at a loss for words on this, other than feeling REALLY bad for you. Your Min Pin was probably stolen, as he or she would more than likely (if it got out on it's own) have hung around the house or at least probably not gone too far from home. Have you made all the normal calls, fliers at local stores, newspaper ad's, etc?

I know exactly how you feel. When I was younger, I had a chocolate lab that was stolen from me. I grew up in a relatively rural area where duck hunting was quite popular. Since labs are often the choice of duck hunters, they were popular dogs. Around the same time that my dog disappeared, I heard about some other people who lost labs. I never knew what happened to Cocoa, but I like to think that she spent time out in the field retrieving ducks and geese.

I thought about that often after my dog was stolen. Back then, it was not uncommon for me to be walking back home from some sort of hunt with a gun cradled in my arm. If I'd have walked up to some schmuck stuffing my dog into his vehicle, it would have been an ugly scene.

I'm surprised people would be stealing individual dogs Vs targeting the breeders of expensive dogs (Where they could take 3-5+ in one swoop). The most terrible thing about this is taking a dog away from it's owner, just flat-out criminal! Rigby (being a one-man dog) would be devastated not having me around. I just do not have a lot of mercy for people that are cruel to animals, especially dogs.

When I was 8 or 9, my family had a trained, purebred english setter. Excellent bird dog, and large enough to do some serious damage to somebody if he wanted to. He was allowed to roam at will, but would always come home at night. One day though, he never came home, and my dad thought that he had probably been stolen by one of the construction workers down the street.

Today, I'm 24 and I just adopted my first dog, a yorkshire terrier, a little over 6 months ago. He's a big guy for his breed, but still only 15-16 lbs, so not really large enough to protect himself effectively.

Even after only 6 months, I can't imagine having him taken from me... if I ever catch someone trying to do that there will be hell to pay!!! He's become such a fantastic part of my life, I can't understand how anyone was even able to give him up in the first place.

Ski-Bum: I hope you find out what happened to your min pin. You should definitely do whatever you can to find him!

North Texas had a problem with thieves going into back yards & kidnapping dogs for ransom or selling them off, things like that makes me completely sick.

Yeah, but in North Texas you can fix that problem really easily. Just make sure the thieves are in your yard first...

When a dog is stolen it is offten not for resale to the public. That is all I want to say.

Unfortunately we live in Kalifornia. Otherwise I'd be planting a few claymores on the back slope:). Dang thieves, may karma catch up with them.

I just hope he's happy wherever he is. We sure miss him.....
