Arggghhhhhh. I am such a tool. Got gas this morning. Ended up chatting with a young man next to me and when I finished I forgot to put the cap back on... Closed the filler door, etc and drove off. Upon hitting the mountains on my first sharp right hander the rear comes around, I'm like WTF??? Well, fuel splashed out and I almost spun the car out... Damn, drove back to the gas station and of course, the filler cap is gone. Yeah. Checked Ricambi... wait for it wait for it wait for it $750!!!!!!!!!! soooooo, fellow 348/355 brothers, anybody selling a used cap or know of a used cap?? Kai
This gas cap? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FERRARI-GAS-CAP-ALUMINUM-308-328-348-355-TR-MONDIAL-L-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem588c86341dQQitemZ380314727453QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
Daniel at Ricambi thinks those are fakes. He says the rubber seal will fail. He used to carry those and got rid of them. I settle for a used one at this point. My wife just offered me to buy me a new one for my birthday but that's just crazy to pay $750 for a friggin gas cap. Kai
There are diff ones on Ebay. I have no idea which ones are faked. $750 is expensive http://motors.shop.ebay.com/Parts-Accessories-/6028/i.html?_nkw=ferrari+fuel+cap
Sorry to hear Kai. You should double check with Troy_wood to see if his friends 348 parts car still has it. Cheers
Wow, Superperformance in the UK sells them for $75... Product Quantity Price Amount Fuel Filler Cap 180320 1 46.95 46.95 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All prices are in UK Pounds TOTAL 46.95 Kai
$750 is silly money for a gas cap. Here is another one. http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partsListing.asp?M=1&Mo=692&A=1&B=41059&S=&ID4=1680544
Where do these prices come from. I have now seen up to four different price points for Ferrari part 180320. Stunning differences. Thanks for the links guys. Kai
Sorry to hear. 750$ is absurd. I am now taking mine with me when I park the car. At least you could have been talking to a young female hottie. What a waste. I would go with e bay part.
Kai, did you check with the gas attendant inside the shop to see if somebody turned it in? Also, do they have video surveillance, and if so perhaps they can have a look to see what happened to it? I realize this may not get you your cap back, but at least you can see what happened to it.
I talked to the gas station attendant. He remembers me getting gas originally but he said that nobody turned anything in. I haven't asked about the video. My guess is somebody got gas, saw the cap on top of the pumps and thought, "cool, a Ferrari gas cap" and just pocketed it. Heck, might have been the attendant himself... I am still in complete shock of the price but now have to sources in the UK for below $200 plus shipping. What a rip off. Kai
The truth is, the fancy aluminum one you see on ebay is not period-correct for the 348. The actual 348 one is this: http://www.international-auto.com/index.cfm?fa=p&pid=2464&posid=851168
Wahh?? Now I'm confused. My car had the silver one with the Ferrari logo. The one you sell for $750 I think. My car should have had the simple black one for $18????? Kai
The one like this I bought several years ago for my 308 did not come with a rubber seal. I popped the original out of the old 308 cap and have used it ever since , no failure what so ever. The cap Daniel points out above is the period correct one for 308 and 348. I just like the shiny silver one better.
Most people prefer the shiny logo cap, but the black one is indeed correct for the cars. The aluminum one might have come out with the very late 348's, but I **think** it was really only introduced on the F355. The aluminum logo ones are widely available as reproduction/aftermarket items. We don't carry them, because they are not licensed to use the Ferrari logo. The ones we've seen are nice quality, but the rubber gasket is very suspect. As the glue weakens, the rubber can get sucked into the filler neck itself (bad!) Certainly, somebody can reglue them better than the pre-school paste they come with originally, and I'm sure the aftermarket ones would be fine. The aftermarket caps are **NOT** vented, and cannot be used on Ferrari systems that are designed for a drilled/vented cap (like 360's). Find the black one for the Alfas. The rubberized coating is much easier on your paint if you (like me) just leave it on the roof of the car during refueling.
I have never seen this black gas cap in question. Learn a new thing everyday I will stick with my aluminum one
