Has anyone else noticed that where once there was a waiting list for an Elise that now dealers seem to have at least 5 waiting on the lot? What is the word going around on this car now?

The Elise's turn as the "it" car was short lived.

The price increase didn't help. Nor did the arrogance of the dealers at the time of release.

    Lotus employee pricing perhaps?

I'm not to sure about that-my dad owns a car dealership that sells the elise. The elise is sold out through the end of next year. About 20% of the cas sold out are cars that the dealers have bought at cost and will sell them for $50,000-the elise is still a very very popular car-at the dealership we probobly get 20 calls a day regarding the elise. I've only seen maybe 20-30 cars being put up for sale and most of them are all dealers which advertise most of there cars online anyway.I also know this becuase i'm a elise freek-i've wanted a elise sence i saw one when i was oversee's in 1996. Yes we do have a few elise's on the lot(even the new laser blue-the color i'm going to get-see picture below) but most of them are spoken for only about 2 for sale-at around $50,000-but we offer ours with the matching hard top which would cost the costomers 2-3 k depending where they got it.

The elise is and always will do well

According to the Elise message boards, the Elise has turned out to be quite a fragile car. Apparently, even a minor accident can result in huge repair costs. Those clam shells are more like egg shells!

And judging by all the new Elises on their lots, Elise dealers must have a different definition of what "sold out" means than the rest of us... :)

Not all dealerships are "sold out". Many still have some on the lots and ONLY now are they moving towards MSRP. A new Elise will cost you $43K(pre tax/no options/etc...)

(Depending on Options, etc.. NO SALVAGED!)
    200-1000 miles = ($41K - $45K)
    1000-2000miles = ($39K - $43K)
    2000+ miles = ($37K +)

The least expensive Elise I've seen was for $37K with 6.5K miles, and that was the ONLY one... I feel they are still selling VERY well... I do wish the price would fall more for my sake, but resale is still strong on these. Next year the Elise will have many new colors, the Exige will soon be out, and MANY upgrades will be available, turbo kit, wheels, interior options are growing... I think Lotus is doing very well these days. VW is very close to purchasing PROTON, and then VW will be dealing with the future of LOTUS..

Yes the elise is very fragile and will cost a lot to fix but thats why you have insurance-and on a car that you will probobly take to a racetrack having full coverage on one is a very good idea.LOL and anyway how much is a ferrari or a porsche to fix when you get into an accident-a hell of a lot more than a lotus elise.

A new front or rear clamshell for an elise will cost you about $4000-a new front bumper alone on a 360 modena will run you $3,000 let alone do you know have much rossa corsa red cost's?.....let alone having a really good paint shop make it match.

A porsche isn't that extreme when it comes to bodywork but if you had to replace the entire front end of a porsche and the front radiators and get it painted-your looking at well over $5,000....and if your run into from behind then it might be a lot more due to the fact that you have the engine there and usally the exhaust system will need to be replaced.

If you had an accident in an elise all you would have to do is get the clamshell(which comes off in about 45 minutes) off and replace it-plus the paint isn't very expensive because they use factory colors from other car company's which makes it affordable and you can have it done anywhere unlike a ferrari or a porsche.

My dad owns a dealership that sells them and when they say sold out it means that you can't order one from the factory-the enzo was sold out before it ever came out also and you could still find them at dealerships. Car dealerships bought 20% of the elise's so they could sell them for more than MSRP and make a profit-thats why they have elise's sitting on their lots. There are probobly 100 elise's on dealer lots out of 5000 2005's produced-thats still nothing compared to the 4900 sold out in about two weeks that they started taking orders for. How many 911's do they take orders for in two weeks...i'm sure not 5000...they only make 9000-10,000 911's a year anyway.

FYI, there were not 5000 '05 Elises produced for the US.

Also, a clamshell won't fix every accident... and it's not too difficult to total an Elise. Where are you getting that the clams come off in 45 minutes, anyway? From everything I've heard, it's a LOT more time than that.

Did i say there were 5000 elise's produced in the u.s in 05'?? The uk also recived the new 190 hp elise and they sold about 3000 of them do to them being about 20% less expensive.

The elise has been tested as the safest car in the world(which is a suprise for being so small)...of course at 70 mph your going to total pretty much any car-but in a 20-30mph collision the car might be okay-of course the elise is subjected to more damage just because their's nothing there to protect the car-no crush zones, crumple zones, impact absorbing foam..all the stuff that makes cars 4000 lbs. Also i'm a good driver and don't plan on wrecking my elise so i really don't worry about it plus with full coverage you don't need to worry and if someone runs into you than its there problem.

It doesn't take long to pop the clamshells off beause theirs nothing there-all you have to do is disconect the head light, take the canards off(covers behind the radiator, and unscrew 6 5 inch bolts-two by the grill, two behind the front wheels, and two up top by the windsheild. The rear does take more time-maybe an hour and a half at the most becuse the only things connected to the body are the grills, lights, and rear hatch.

    here's a naked elise

Now that is just blatant bull****.

What the hell are you talking about "20% less expensive"?

They cost more in Europe than they do in the US.

Its been tested to 100 mph-the only car ever to show that the occpants survived the impact-the chassis is very strong the way its bonded together so that the metal doesn't brake down which happens when you weld metal. Also they say its a very safe car is becuase when its hit,the car will skid and won't just sit there and take the impact like a 4000 pound family sedan-lighter cars are actually safer because of physics.

You can get a new elise in europe for $35,000 brand new-you can get its counterpart the vx220 for $25,000-there cheaper in europe becuase shiping in cheap, they don't have the noise and pollution regulations, the car has none of the i'm a pansy sh** that the u.s elise has(air, leather, carpeting, power windows/door locks etc) thats why are elise weighs 1900 lbs and not 1600-1700 pounds like the one in europe.

guys - the elise is just a car - just like any other today. prices will come down. it will depreciate. better models will come out. and so on and so forth. no different than a 360 or 355 or benz or anything else. a sports car that's expensive to fix? somebody hold the presses ;) . no need for anybody to get their panties in a knot.

The MSRP of the Elise 111R in the UK is £27,995, or $49,218... without any options.

I believe this price is even higher for other European countries.

    Did I say I:

D] was a Professional Hockey Player?
    E] own my own business?
