Thank you for the advice, I will definitely take it into account when doing the engine rebuild...BTW, that was a very expensive post you made. I didn't know anyone out there was making a 4-2-1 exhaust for the car... As soon as I read your text I emailed Lotusbits!

Now I can add that to the cost of the build too. Happy New Year !

    Happy to help.. :)

Do not check out the engine upgrade page at the Lotusbits web page, or this post might be even more expensive than the previous one.. :-D

Beautiful car! That livery is the only one that would get me to buy another black car!

If you’re looking for a JPS, they are out there but you have to be patient to find a good one.

I read most of the replies here, and I have to agree than Lotus Esprit cars are indeed undervalued...
First of all, it was a 4-cylinder, so this always hurt the image of the car...
Secondly, the build quality was average..
Lastly, the Lotus brand was seriously hurt in the 1990s when Lotus almost went bankrupt...

There was total of about 10,000 cars built from 1997 - 2003...
The last 1000 were the V8 models...
I think the very early S1 "James Bond" cars and the very late V8 cars and special editions 300 Sport and 350 Sport will appreciate, eventually !!
I just bought a 2001 Lotus Esprit V8 with low miles... I bought it at a bottom price...
I think it will appreciate in the coming years... Even if it doesn't, who cares, I love the look and the experience of driving this car !!
It makes you feel like a hero and looks really COOL !!!

Always loved the '81-'87 Turbo Esprits. Not sure about the softer Stevens designed cars they're ok. But has anyone seen or know of the '88-92 Stevens cars being backdated to the Giugiaro style? Would be an interesting project...

As a preteen in the 80s, all I had was G car ads. Never saw them on the street. Stevens cars were nice but it took 30 yrs until a 90SE fell in my lap. A well sorted driver.. in the teens no less. Design has aged very well. GM parts is a plus. Huge discount to a V8 year.

1500 miles driven in 6 weeks. Most quirks are resolved with use in my case. Snug cockpit like a fighter jet. Possibly the last exotic value out there. Few made and many are gone.
