Chris, miss seeing you and the 355. You miss all of the excitement. Not much happened, just someone trying to take out about 50 feet of fence, sideways. Fence did stop the car from rolling over down a hill.

    John,
It was good to see you again also. Your 308 looks great. I'm looking forward to seeing my 308 redone also. All I was going to do was to have the car resprayed, but "WHILE I WAS IN THERE" :
    Recovered A piller inserts and
    lower B pillar trim
    recovered console
    new targa top seal
    door seals
    new lever bezels and labels
    radiator repair
    axle shaft seals
    repair crack in oil pan
and since you brought it up, a new surge tank.
Since I'll be draining the coolant, removing the axles and draining the oil, now I'm thinking of pulling the engine and replacing the sodium valves and
    putting in air injection plugs.

What was I thinking????????????? I just wanted new paint!

Thanks Dan for the compliment. Sounds like yours will be quite nice once you complete your work on her. That mission creep can be expensive. If and when you open that engine up, then the you will create an even bigger while you are there list! As we discussed, I am considering doing the same. I hate to blow the engine apart right after getting her back, but she could use the TLC. Are you pulling your engine and repairing yourself or sending it out?

Repairing myself. Oh yes, and adjusting valves, and that's all! Yea, right!

I need to check if exhaust manifolds need to removed in order to pull the engine.

Excellent! I will know who to ask when I get stuck when I do mine. I don't know on those manifolds...but I am sure somewhere in the 308 section someone has outlined the process. Off the cuff, I would think they would need to be off the head, but that is just a guess. It all looks fairly tight. I'd hate to whack fresh paint or glass with it.

Thanks for the pictures! I hated that I could not attend. Again I missed the excitement, let's hope that since it has happened twice that people will cool it a little when leaving from now on.

I guess they could repaint the 458. Go with a purple and black.

Reading other threads, the front manifold does not need to come off if you pull from the 1-4 bank. I didn't want to pull that front manifold off while engine was in the car. I'm not concerned about the rear window, it's already out.

If you get stuck, call me, I'll let you know which knuckles get scratched at each step.

Yes, Cars and Coffee is on for Saturday and the weather is going to be unseasonably warm. Should be a nice turnout.

    John,
Pulled the engine from the 5-8 head and left the front manifold on. Almost able to leave the rear manifold on but... it had to come off. Had to make pulling plates to remove the front head. The heads are at the machine shop now. Thy will put in the new exhaust valves and check the input valves. Kept all paint covered and the rear window is out.

Excellent Dan! Congrats. Have you given blood yet to the project? A project is not complete until you do!:D While you are there, I would consider replacing all the valves. Might as well go stainless, and get all new guides and stem seals. You might even should consider oversized valves. I think SF has them. Mine likes to eat a little oil now especially when I am on and off throttle a lot. I suspect the valve guides are the culprit.

I believe it is from 9-11, but it seems like people get there earlier than that and often stay later.
